Hazel: The Story of an Unexpected Dog Adoption

I'm in shelters all the time. Of course, there are many I want to adopt, but you just can't. But this dog cowering in a corner, I kept walking back to. I don't know why. She looked so afraid. I later learned her story (which you'll read soon). I was at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago, and happy to go, finally - as a favor to Jill Cahr, co-founder of Trio Animal Foundation. I don't know why I was attracted to her. I was thinking about rescuing a Brittany, really. Diane Spyrka, the executive director said I bet if take her out, we'll see a different dog. I thought the same. By the way, Diane is - overall - among the Chicago animal welfare heroes.
I walked into the Animal Welfare League of Chicago with Jill Cahr of the Trio Animal Foundation, and walked out with….a new friend.

Pit Bull Saves Air Force Veteran from Suicide

Pit Bull Saves Air Force Veteran from Suicide
I don’t care what my critics say, and I have no data to support this…While all dogs are loyal, Pit Bull-type dogs somehow excel in that department. I am aware of the negative press….but few are aware of the positive press – decades and decades of it, before the dogs were exploited. Here’s just one... Read more »

On this day, it was well into the 90's - so at night, didn't cool off a ton. Still, sun was going down, lots of shade and water for Ethel...and she was happy to share with dogs walking down the sidewalk. Several took advantage.

Raccoons Killing Cats? It Can't Happen If You Keep Kitty Indoors
I support indoor cats only for a long list of reasons. Among them, some cats do kill wildlife….and the other way around. Richard Thibeault in Richmond B.C. says his 17-year-old Siamese cat, Kokanee, was cornered by two raccoons in his driveway on July 17 and dragged away screaming. He says his wife, Wendy, was woken...
