Dr. Niels Pedersen at 2002 Winn Feline Foundation FIP Symposium

The Winn Feline Foundation held their 33rd Annual Symposium on June 23, and the subject was feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Speaking at this event, rock star veterinarians and longtime FIP researchers, Dr. Al Legendre and Dr. Niels Pedersen. This Symposium is available (at no charge) for the public to hear - LISTEN HERE.

The Winn Feline Foundation has long been committed to finding an answer to solve this fatal disease, funding some of the world's top researchers, including Legendre at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine; Pedersen at the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and SOCK FIP; and Dr. Diane Addie who is now in France. In fact, look what I found: In August of 2002, the Winn Feline Foundation hosted a Symposium on the Enteric Feline Corona Virus and FIP, held in Glasgow, Scotland. Check this out, here are that meeting's notes:

Part 1. Introduction and Overview

Parr 2. Background of Enteric Feline Corona Virus and FIP (session 1)

Part 3. Diagnosis and Treatment, FIP (session 2)

Part 4. Epidemiology of Feline Corona Virus Infection (session 3)

Part 5. Pathogenesis and Immunogenesis (session 4)

Part 6: Prevention of  Enteric Feline Corona Virus Infection/FIP (session 5)

Part 7: Workshop Results

Part 8: Glossary

These notes are fascinating to read today when we only have slightly more knowledge about FIP, but far more perspective.

Pedersen, Legendre, Addie, Dr. Mellisa Kennedy (University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and now Winn Feline Foundation Board Member); Dr. Susan Little (Winn Feline Foundation Board Member) of Canada; Dr. Takuo Ishida, Japan; and researcher Dr. Hans Lutz of Switzerland were among the International contingent who attended or presented.
