I was so surprised myself at how often heart disease occurs in dogs, according to Dr. Sonya Gordon, board certified
veterinary cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Texas
A&M University. In fact, most older and smaller dogs have heart disease. Astounding.

Dr. Gordon also points out how common heart disease is in cats.

For dogs and cats, Dr. Gordon discusses symptoms, pet owners can watch for - click here for a website with lots of information about heart disease, and Your Pets Heart
(dogs and cats).

The North Shore Animal League's Tour for Life is all about encouraging pet adoption - and the Tour hits Chicago, at the Anti
Cruelty Society
(Grand Avenue at LaSalle Street) noon to 7 p.m. April
20. Nadine Wamsley and Emily Armitage of Anti Cruelty talk about the
event.

Andy Avalos, weatherman and pet fan

I will be there, so will weatherman and pet fan Andy Avalos of
Ch. 5. There will be behavior experts available to answer questions,
micrcohipping available (all pets should be 'chipped), and pet intuitive
Denise Zak will reveal what your pet is really thinking. Most
important, you can go home with a new best friend.

April is National Greyhound month. People have misconceptions about
Greyhounds. For example, as Barbara Karant, author of "Greyhounds"
points out, they can be a great choice for apartments or condos.
Together, we celebrate Greyhounds!
