Marjie Alonso is the executive director of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). I attended a recent IAABC conference, and talked to Marjie about how members of this organization save lives. And how to find a behavior consultant to help your pet.

Veterinary behaviorist and director of the behavior clinic at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University Dr. Nicholas Dodman was a special presenter at the IAABC Conference.

Dr. Dodman is the editor of "Good Old Dog," and author of several popular books, including "Dogs Behaving Badly" and "The Cat Who Cried for Help." We talked about aging in pets, dogs who could be autistic and compulsive behaviors.

Do Border Collies Dream of Sheep, Carol Lea Benjamin.jpg

Carol Lea Benjamin comes out of the closet! Carol is a legendary dog
trainer. She also happens to have an "invisible disability," and always
has a service dog at her side. She says these dogs have changed her life. It truly is astounding to hear how these dogs have helped her, long before it was acceptable to have a service dog for a disability which isn't evident. Carol tells her story in her latest book
(with C. Denise Wall) "Do Border Collies Dream of Sheep."

If there is a time of year when people think the most about pet adoption, it's Spring and Summer.

Before walking into your local
shelter, Betsy Saul, co-founder of www.petfinder.com says let your
fingers do the walking on a computer keyboard. She also offers pet
adoption tips.

I asked ordinary folks people if their pets are microchipped. And I
learn that even some who answer "yes" to microchipping may not
understand it's equally important to register with the microchip
provider. I'm a fan of microchipping (I know it saves lives), and even
more a fan of the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service (for all the extra
perks, for little cost -- I am cheap and love great value).

You'll also hear about the most popular cat breeds (according to the Cat Fanciers' Association)
