Cesar Millan Offers Answers to Behavior Questions

Do you really want me to offer what I think is wrong with these answers?  (Millan's production company removed the video known as Millan kicking dogs from YouTube. Not sure how they can remove this YouTube video)

Question #1: I agree some dogs who destroy the house may not be getting enough exercise; Millan did not consider the possibility that this dog (from puppyhood on) never learned to be home alone. He also didn't mention the possibility of separation distress, which all the exercise int he world won't by itself solve. On one of my radio shows, he answered a similar question (about a home alone dog) suggesting "clearly there is a lack of leadership."

Question #2: Again, I agree with some of what Millan said, and I do believe some dogs would be alcoholics if they could be. However, when dogs lick the bottom of their paws, allergies are a rule out. He did not send this dog to a veterinary dermatologist or any veterinarian. And he likely should have sent this person to receive additional help, particularly from a veterinary behaviorist. It's what I would have done, and have done countless times. On TV or radio, you can't know all the answers, and pretending to is wrong.

  • It's really too bad that you and Cesar Millan are not on better terms. You might be able to have a fascinating discussion on his show or your show. As it is, you seem to have burned all your bridges to him.

??? I'm not sure - but think we're on ok terms personally...I have no issue with him personally. He only, far as I know, appears on shows, though, when he has something to sell. However, I appear when asked. Of course, I am not asked nearly as often as he is. But also a different approach, I suspect. I don't really know. I do know, I like him - seems like a very nice guy, and I believe he cares about dogs. As for how he feels about me, or bridges burned, you'd have to ask him...

  • In reply to SteveDale:

Well, he is a professional trainer - that's what he does for a living. Why wouldn't he appear on shows to promote his tapes, books, shows, etc.? Anyway, good to hear that you have nothing against him personally and that you are on o.k. terms (despite the lawsuit that you mentioned earlier). Would be interesting for him to invite you and your dogs to have a training session to have a training session, I think!

  • In reply to harpercollie:

Hmmm...well, that's if he is on next season...

To have a training session with him (which would be interesting) with my own pets, he would have to come to me...But I would go to him and did suggest (though he didn't choose me) that he have others on, and I must say he did - Karen Pryor was one.

  • In reply to SteveDale:

LOL - that's the entertainment industry, isn't it? "Next season" always seems to be up in the air, I guess. I was sorry that you didn't get to do something with CM when he was here (Chicago) last year. I didn't realize that he had Karen Pryor on!

I do think that you both are right, Cesar and you, but nobody is perfect and we dont actually think EVERYTHING there is to think at one time. :) so its good that you mentioned that. but i do think that if you walk your dog long enough then while your away then he'll most likely sleep while your gone. :)
