Chicago Area Dog Gone For More Than Five Years, Now Reunited with Family

Watch this amazing story of Bo. Over five years ago Bo was stolen out of the
backyard. Thanks to a microchip, he was found hundreds of miles away,
and reunited with his family. One of every three animals becomes lost or is stolen (as Bo was), including indoor cats and dogs you never think would or could get out. We all think it won't happen to us - and probably it won't. But what if it does. Is your pet microchipped?

  • I had a similar situation with a client and her Great Dane. The dog got out and was lost for almost 2 years. The client moved twice and ended up in another state. The dog was found, scanned, and because the client updated her information with the chip maker, they were reunited. It was a VERY happy ending. Ya gotta make sure your contact information is always current.

As a pet sitter I see & hear all the time how pets are lost or stoeln. Its a pet owners worst nightmare. But the days of collars is obsolete almost. Its as simple as taking a collar off & saying a dog belongs to you! Or a pet doesn't like wearing a collar & tags - A microchip is the way to go! First words out of mouth when I hear a pet is missing is "Were the microchipped?" It really the only almost ffool proof way to ID a pet now a days! Most animals shleters now a days will not let a pet leave without a micochip - but its up tot he owner to register the microchip that the pet belongs to them.
Otherwise it remains registered to the shelter or rescue you got it from! And you should update the information when or if you move!
