Cook County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy, co-chair of Cook County Partners Against Animal Cruelty and long time animal welfare supporter; this the perfect public official to kick-off of 2nd Annual Get Your Licks on Route 66" pet adoption tour on Friday, September 10, 11 a.m., at City Hall in Chicago Heights (1601 Chicago Road).
North Shore Animal League America, all the way from Port Washington, NY and FIDO Friendly Magazine have joined forces to transport their 33-foot long-long pet adoption trailer across the entire length of Route 66, from Illinois to California. Murphy calls it a "lifesaving" tour.
The North Shore Animal League America and the tour's Chicago area partner, South Suburban Humane Society, will be presented with a Key to the City of Chicago Heights. Murphy will present a Resolution supporting the North Shore Animal League.
I will speak to the issue of people who travel with their pets, and precautions you should take. Definitely, call your veterinarian before you leave because if canine influenza is occurring wherever you're going, a vaccine might be a good idea. And absolutely, microchip!
The tour travels along Route 66 for nearly a month, culminating with a final wrap party and adoption event in Los Angeles. The Get Your Licks on Route 66 tour will raise awareness to the plight of homeless pets and vital services that participating animal shelter and rescue partners provide to their communities.
