Strutting for Strays, As in Stray Cats

A Walk to help stray cats is called the Stray Cat Strut. Tree House Humane Society is very busy adopting out cats and kittens in need of forever homes, especially in the summer - all shelters are brimming with cats.

The Masses Gather to Help Cats

Tree House is also a leader at addressing the issues related to feral cats who live their entire lives outdoors. The best option is referred to as trap, neuter, return. Tree House directs dozens of volunteer caretakers who trap the cats, have them fixed, and then return those guys to allow them to live out their lives. Being feral, they can't be successfully adopted. Though, small kittens born into outdoor colonies, and friendly formerly owned cats who find themselves in colonies are brought into the shelter for adoption.

For five years the Stray Cat Strut, a walk from the Tree House Ashland Avenue location in Bucktown (1629 N. Ashland Avenue) to the Tree House branch in Uptown (1212 W. Carmen Avenue, at Broadway).  The walk starts at 10 a.m.

In June, adopt an older cat FREE.

As walkers end up at the finish - I'll be passing out FREE copies of CATegorical Care: An Owner's Guide to America's #1 Companion. This 20-page publication was created by American Humane and the CATalyst Council to support Adopt-A-Cat.  CATegorical Care was signed off on by an all star line up of superstar veterinary reviewers, including the American Veterinary Medical Association. Information in this guide is the latest and greatest in cat care, everything from training cats to go into a carrier for veterinary visits to nutritional information.

Older cats are fun too, and you may save a life

Celebrating Adopt-A-Cat month, throughout June - you can adopt any cat over age 5 years, at NO cost. No word on whether the state of Illinois will allow these senior cats to ride on public transportation at no cost. However, you'll get some free Hill's (Science Diet) cat food with each adoption. Most important, you'll save a cat's life.

Also at the event, I'll hand out kids' CATivity books that support cat adoption, prepared by the American Humane Association. Also, Greyhounds Only, Inc. will be there supporting adoption of the elegant dog breed.
