Another recall of pet foods and treats. The Diamond Pet Food company just issued a voluntary recall on some bags of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hair Ball Cat foods because of insufficient levels of thiamine (which can cause intestinal and/or neurological problems in some cats). The Associated Press indicates there are 21 reports (to date) of health problems in cats that consumed the affected foods. Concerned consumers can contact the company, 800-977-8797.
If you missed it (in all honesty I did), last month - the FDA issued a health alert for pet treats made by Pet Carousel to dog owners, advising of possible salmonella contamination in pig ears and beef hooves sold by Pet Carousel. The pig ear products were marketed with the names Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. The beef hoof products marketed with the names Choo Hooves, Dentley's Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. The good news is that no illness has been confirmed, according to the FDA.
