In a bizarre series of events,
Toronto Humane Society officials were arrested. Tim Trow, Toronto Humane Society President and four other employees are facing criminal animal cruelty charges, and other offenses, following a raid. Shackled in handcuffs Trow, the society's chief veterinarian, the shelter's general manager and two other staff members were escorted out by police. One report indicates a dog was pepper sprayed in the raid November 27 by Toronto police. According to Ontario news reports about the Toronto Humane Society, the ongoing investigation had been going on for some time. A startling story, but something doesn't seem right. Comments from those who live in Canada for insight?

Steve~perhaps it's like the Tiger Ranch case here in Pittsburgh, a no-kill cat sanctuary where the woman wouldn't turn any cats away and didn't believe in euthanasia, neither of which works to the benefit of the animals.
Torontonian here...
The THS is/was a wonderful organization with some dedicated workers but it has been totally corrupted by the volunteer president and his board of directors and management team. The animals are sadly not the only ones being abused, but the workers and the volunteers are regularly harrassed, screamed at, demeaned and volunteers are even "fired" although they are always under-staffed.
But back to the animals, if you look far enough back, you will find our beloved (sarcasm) Mr Tim Trow was the president in 1982 and yet again the same suspicions and complaints came up of cruelty to the animals in the THS. He resigned. He was re-elected in 2001. There was a huge debacle in 2006 but no one investigated, this time its FINALLY all coming to light :)
Mr Trow doesn't beliive in speutering animnals (his own cats and dogs are intact) and adopts out intact animals all the time. The low euthanasia rate is his "claim to fame". What they don't tell you is that animals often are too sick to survive and are suffering, but these animals are allowed to suffer and die in their cages, SO THEY DON'T AFFECT THE EUTHANASIA RATE! The Globe and Mail here (a prominent business newspaper) found all sorts of hidden documents including the stats of animals dying in their cages...and the stories I have heard from staff members...I shall not repeat. One last thing. Today a mummified cat was found in the ceiling of the THS, in a humane live trap. It had died over 1-2 years ago...why didn't anyone hear his cries for help or the stink of his decomposing body...unless those sounds and smells are normal there :'(
Hi Steve and other animal lovers. I think it would be best if I summarize. Was everyone aware that Mr. Trow was a former lawyer?

Inside the Toronto Humane Society AGM
1. Tim Trow tried to pass motions without anyone counting the hands raised for or against the motion
2. Tim Trow tried to pass motions without knowing the official number of proxy votes in his charge.
3. Tim Trow tried to pass the financial statements before any questions the financial statements were discussed and questions were asked about them
4. Tim Trow tried to pass a motion about accepting the by-laws and any changes made to the by-laws without announcing whether any changes had been made to them.
If you are going to even bother with a vote on the floor, there should be a person actually counting the number of votes for or against a motion.
Tim Trow actually declared
Hahaha, the timeline was to come first :) Saturday mornings, double checking newspaper articles with my coffee is not such a bad thing.
Happy reading

Just in case I shall give you the Timeline again...
