Vet Visits May Soon Be A Write Off

The idea of writing off your veterinary costs (up to $3,500) began with actor Robert Davi (Die Hard movies and many TV shows), and then forwarded to committee by U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI). Davi is on my WLS show, 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 26) on WLS (890 AM, www.wlsam.com). The ASPCA now supports H.R. 3501, known as the 'Happy Act.'

Surprisingly, I've received lots of email arguing against this bill. How do you feel? Also, if you have a question for Robert, post here and I will try to ask him.

  • When the Congress enacts legislation allowing citizens to write off the first $3500 of medical expenses for themselves and family, I will be willing to think about extending that tax break to pets. Not Before!!

  • I would love a pet tax write off. We rescue pets because OTHER people are not responsible. It is a tremendous strain on our tight budget. I am so tired of picking up the irresponsibilities of others. It is costly and very hard WORK! A tax write off for pets would be wonderful relief. We do write off some of our own people medical expences...the pets are a part of our family too.
