Twisted Butter

Twisted Butter

If Paula Deen is the Queen of butter, than I am the Princess. Ok, maybe I don’t add to butter to every dish I make, but that doesn’t mean I love it any less. About a month ago I received an email from a publicist representing a new company called Twisted Butter. One of the first things to initially get my attention was the fact that the company is based in my hometown of Northbrook, IL, which holds a soft spot in my heart.

After watching countless shows on the Food Network that incorporate strawberries into butter, fresh garlic and herbs, red wine, blue cheese, and other countless sweet and savory flavors, I wondered if anyone would ever think of coming out with a line of butters already incorporating these flavors. And that is where Twisted Butter comes to the rescue.

Twisted Butter has six flavors to experiment with; the types and descriptions are below:

  • Blueberry, Honey & Lemon Zest – An abundance of sweet blueberries, pure honey and fresh lemon zest folded into Premium AA salted butter.
  • Cinnamon, Honey & Brown Sugar – Fresh ground cinnamon, pure honey and granulated light brown sugar folded into Premium AA salted butter.
  • Cilantro & Lime – Just the right amount of fresh, finely chopped cilantro and fresh squeezed limejuice folded into Premium AA salted butter.
  • Chives & Parsley – Just the right amount of fresh, finely chopped chives and parsley folded into Premium AA salted butter.
  • Portobello Mushroom with Boursin-Garlic & Fine Herb Cheese – Fresh chopped portobello mushroom with Boursin-Garlic & Fine Herb Cheese folded into Premium AA salted butter.
  • Bacon, Dijon Mustard & Green Onion – Crumbled bacon, creamy Dijon mustard & fresh, chopped green onion folded into Premium AA salted butter.

Twisted Butter sent me two samples of each flavor and I have to admit, I may have already gone through one of the Cinnamon, Honey & Brown Sugar flavors. One of my favorite easy recipes I made with it is super simple and can actually save you some money in the long run!

I started by purchasing a tube of reduced fat crescent rolls and laying them out flat on an ungreased baking sheet. Then, after letting the butter soften a little bit in its tub on the counter I spread a thin layer on each crescent roll and rolled them up according to the normal directions. Then you bake them in a 375-degree over for 11-13 minutes. Congratulations, you’ve just made cheap, easy, delicious cinnamon rolls! One of the coolest things I noticed about all the butter flavors was the fact that there are still some pure butter pieces in the tubs that weren’t totally incorporated into the blend. These buttery pieces taste fresh and pure and it’s just kind of nice to know that the starting product is of good quality and that the flavors aren’t masking a low quality product.

Twisted Foods Co-owner Dave Milazzo says,  “Clearly more people are cooking at home nowadays and butter is such a versatile ingredient for enhancing meals and snacks.”  I couldn’t agree more. I can’t wait for summer to come around again and use the cilantro lime butter to spread on some sweet summer corn and sprinkle with a little bit of cayenne pepper. I’ve also already concluded that the Bacon, Dijon Mustard & Green Onion flavor is great on potatoes; the Blueberry, Honey & Lemon Zest is excellent on toast or a bagel; Portobello Mushroom with Boursin-Garlic & Fine Herb Cheese couldn’t be an easier gourmet twist on any type of steak; and Chives & Parsley make an excellent edition to about any kind of creamy pasta sauce!
