Bombay Wraps

Bombay Wraps

Back in December before all of the holiday madness began, I had the chance to celebrate Bombay Wraps one-year anniversary by trying some of their most popular menu items. One of my good blogger friends and a successful PR girl as well enticed me with a free lunch afternoon and I couldn’t resist.

I really love Indian food, but a lot of times after I eat it I feel like I’m about to enter a food coma. During lunch I try and eat a little bit lighter so I don’t fall asleep at my desk. Bombay Wraps, located at 122 North Wells Street, is the first fast casual Indian restaurant in Chicago to serve fresh, authentic and fast Indian wraps in flavors like Chicken Tikka, Steak Boti, Lamb Curry and Cheese Paneer. I was pleasantly surprised by the European-style portions of the wraps. They were absolutely the perfect lunch size and nowhere near the size of a chipotle burrito.

I’d never had paneer cheese before and was a little wary of trying this wrap. I like most vegetarian food, in fact I cook a lot of it these days, but I like to see exactly what’s in a vegetarian dish before I’ll eat it. The paneer was very similar to some Mexican cheeses I’ve had like queso fresco which is generally unsalted like paneer. The chicken tikka was also one of my favorites along with the lamb curry. One of the best parts of all the wraps though was the wrap itself. It was flakey and pastry-like, but at the same time didn’t fall apart as I ate the wraps.

I also had a chance to try a mango lassi. I have to admit, trying a lassi is something I’ve been avoiding for quite some time. I’ve been offered one before, but my fear of the whole “milky” flavor has stopped me from giving it a chance. As the yellow liquid was thickly poured into a cup in front of me, all I could do was look up and smile and then wait for the owner to walk away lest I made a horrid face upon trying it. Eventually after trying the wraps I got up the courage to lift the beverage to my lips. And let me say this, anyone who’s avoided trying a mango lassi before is making a HUGE mistake. I loved it! It was similar to a smoothie or a thick frozen yogurt milkshake. I couldn’t have finished the whole drink in one sitting, but it was delicious. This is something that I’d have for dessert any night of the week!

In addition to the wraps on the menu, Bombay offers sides like Indian spiced sweet pototo fries (which are great by the way) and a pea and potato samosa. Recently they’ve added somosa desserts like nutella and berry. They also currently have some great deals going on like 1 Wrap + 1 Side + 1 Fountain Drink for $6.99 or 2 Wraps + 1 Fountain Drink for $8.99. Compared to some of the pricier fast-casual options in the loop, I’ll definitely be going back to Bombay Wraps again soon for a filling, healthy, and perfect size lunch meal!

  • They look good! I love wraps and we have them often. As vegans, it's an easy meal to put together, plus be healthy at the same time.
