District Bar Chicago

District Bar Chicago

A few weeks ago District Bar invited me and Andrew (as my guest), to try out some of their new menu items, their treat! This tasting could not have come at a better time, both of us had a hard Tuesday at work and we were pretty excited about tasty after-work cocktails.

I had never been there before and loved the little library shelf wall when you walked in. It made the bar feel cozy, even though it was pretty spacious. District has one bar that lines pretty much the whole back wall and it was pretty quiet the night we came in which was a nice change from most sceney bars in River North. Andrew and I actually got to have a conversation with each other without screaming and got to know the bartender, manager and PR representative pretty well too. But I’m sure this place will be packed now that NFL season has started as it has a really fun atmosphere.

One of my favorite things I learned about their new cocktail menu is that all the drinks were named and made up by the District Bar staff! The cocktails boast some pretty creative names like “Shake Your Bombay” which includes Bombay Sapphire Gin, Cointreau Liqueur shaken with cranberry and limejuice, poured into a Martini glass garnished with an orange twist. Together Andrew and I tried the Tequila Mockingbird, The Rod Blagojevich, The Floki, Macedonian Summer, Q Tini, The J Bird, La Guapisima and Mucho Take It Easy. You can find the individual descriptions about what are in each of these drinks on their website.

And yes, we know that we consumed a total of eight drinks there together, like I said we’d had a tough day at work, don’t judge us!

We also had the chance to try out some of their menu’s new bites. Of course because I like anything macaroni and anything fried, my favorite was the macaroni bites served with homemade ranch dipping sauce. We also got to try the chicken fingers, pizza flatbread, pull pork sliders, the chili (Andrew’s favorite), cream of broccoli soup and the apple chicken with almonds salad. I’m a huge fan of gourmet bar salads and I have to say that the apple chicken with almonds salad was one of the best I’ve had in a while. I’m a huge fan of nuts in salads as they add a little extra protein and keep you feeling full longer than if you eat a regular Caesar salad.

I’m really looking forward to going back for happy hour sometime and snagging more of those macaroni and cheese bites. Overall we left feeling full and a little bit tipsy, a perfect end to a tough Tuesday.
