One team that likes to call itself "NU" is 4-1 against the other team that likes to call itself "NU" this season across all sports. If I had said that this would be the case at the beginning of the year, and that the former would be Northwestern and the latter Nebraska, would you have believed me?
The latest victory over Nebraska was pulled off by the injury-plagued Women's Basketball team, on the road, snapping a 3-game losing streak and finally beating a Big Ten team with a pulse (ranked #16 by the AP). Dannielle Diamant scored 19 on 9-17 shooting to lead the charge, Kendall Hackney scored an efficient 17 on 5-7 shooting , and Tailor Jones continued to provide a spark off the bench, scoring 8 in 22 minutes. You can read the full recap from NUSports.com here.
We're now 4-1 against Nebraska on the year. They'll most likely even things out eventually, but it's fun while it's lasted.
No Love in Chi-Town again
The regular Chicago rags are busy talking about Weber's "rant" and how this may be the end of the road for him, so there's nothing NU-related there (not that there's really anything to talk about anyway). Excellent orange jacket, though. (Side note: try a google image search for "Bruce Weber" sometime) In typical Illini fan fashion, nobody gives him any credit for basically admitting to doing every single thing fans have been bitching about him doing for years.
Kyle Prater Holy Shit
This is some good stuff right here. USC transfer Kyle Prater's 1-on-1 drill highlights from Southern Cal. I know, you can't truly judge how someone is going to play on the field based on 1-on-1 drills or high school tape that only show good plays, but this is just fun to watch... some pretty sick catches. Skip to 0:48 in to avoid the borderline-unwatchable weird interview beforehand. (Not unwatchable because of Prater, but because of how it's edited and the dude asking questions who can't seem to get his words out right) I kind of feel bad for the CB #4 Torin Harris who gets burned pretty much like we did all last season.
Coach Fitz ignores the Bulls on Twitter again!
Yeah, I'll get in trouble for this one, but c'mon now... fresh off a controversy involving a tweet that apparently, somehow, in the space of 140 characters, without mentioning Derrick Rose or the Bulls by name, naturally implied that he isn't as good or wholesome or does things the right way or is as much of a role model/human being/sensational hero as Jeremy Lin (in a tweet that was accidentally posted to his account by someone else, but who cares about those details...), Coach Fitz retweeted news of the Blackhawks getting off the snide and ending their weird inexplicable losing streak, congratulated the Women's basketball team on their victory, but completely ignored the Bulls' gutty win over the Celtics last night...
ESPN's Big Ten Blog actually answers a NU-related question
Or, Brian Bennett pretends he actually knows something or did some research about Northwestern. Scroll to the 6th question. Bennett is right, though. Not winning a bowl game sucks, but bowl games are glorified exhibitions anyway and mean nothing. Not making the NCAA tournament is much worse. It's too bad the most talented team we've had in a long time is stuck in the toughest Big Ten Conference in years. There's gotta be some sort of curse associated with this. We'll discuss this soon.
