This is simply a post that could be seen as a big plug for one of the best college football blogs around, but I'm going to try to bring some form of hard Northwestern football angle to it. It's getting tough to actually find things to write in late June, but we're getting excited and ready for Vanderbilt.
Anyway, Pre-Snap Read is an offshoot of a New York Times college football blog which ranked all the FBS programs last year. It's done it again this year and is already down to #66 (Tennessee) and has a lot of NU opponents on the list already. The blog is a great daily read, and it will educate you better than Fowler and Herbstreit can do and in a more entertaining way.
So now, after that 30 second commercial, I get down to business.
If you go by Pre-Snap Read (from now on PSR), NU has a freakin' easy
schedule. If you take a run down the teams PSR has ranked so far, six
of the 12 teams NU plays are on there. Illinois State would be on there
if it were FBS.
107. Vanderbilt
103. Rice
94. Ill-ANNOY
83. Minnesota-jah
82. Central Michigan
77. Indiana
PSR must think fairly highly of the 'Cats if they haven't ranked them
yet. Usually these types of rankings always put NU way down the list.
However, some decent teams have already been ranked, like Tennessee and
Oklahoma State.
Now, to be fair, I don't think any of these games are going to be easy,
but relatively, it's pretty damn easy. Northwestern schedules these
non-conference opponents years in advance, so it's tough to tell that
far ahead.
