THE REAL NU (and other Northwestern notes)

THE REAL NU (and other Northwestern notes)
One team that likes to call itself "NU" is 4-1 against the other team that likes to call itself "NU" this season across all sports.  If I had said that this would be the case at the beginning of the year, and that the former would be Northwestern and the latter Nebraska, would you have believed me... THIS Pat Fitzgerald wouldn't have let others tweet for him, and other NU links

THIS Pat Fitzgerald wouldn't have let others tweet for him, and other NU links
Yes, ok, we all know now that Coach Fitz's twitter account inadvertently pissed off every Chicago's-NBA-Team fan in Chicago.  I'm actually surprised this accidental-tweeting-from-the-account-you-manage doesn't happen more often, to be honest.  We won't go into detail about this, however.  We have much more important things to cover, like this incredible find: We here at SFTF pride ourselves in scouring the interwebs and introducing to you all of the different "Pat Fitzgeralds" out there, in order to broaden your appreciation for the one we have and open your mind to what else exists in this wonderful world we live in.  That being said, how have we never heard of this guy before?  Did we totally miss that there were two dudes named "Pat Fitzgerald" who were selected to All-American first teams in 1995 and 1996??  He was also a two-time Academic All-American, and was named to the Texas Longhorns' Hall of Honor this past fall.  Impressive. Personally, as a Bills fan, I'm upset about not remembering that we drafted him with a 7th-round pick in 1997... though we've had more than a few forgettable draft classes, like that year we had 2 first round picks and drafted Ohio State's whole secondary. Anyway, while the main rags in town have nothing to say other than their recaps of the Purdue drubbing and Twittergate, here's the rest of what our Google search for "Northwestern" turned up this week (after the jump)... Do you like apples? (Good Dan Hunting)
There are really no reasons to get FIRED UP or to hate Boston College so instead I just decided to bring you my top 10 quotes from the legendary movie “Good Will Hunting” that may or may not directly relate to the football game on Saturday. 10.  “You’re not perfect, sport, and let me save... This ain't no Johnny off the pickle boat...

Today is the five year anniversary of Randy Walker’s tragic death.  I still remember where I was when I heard. I was staying over at a friend’s apartment in Evanston because I had to go with him to shoot a golf tournament in Hammond the next day. I was having trouble sleeping the entire night... Read more »

Top ten reasons to get FIRED UP for the Ticket City Bowl

Actually, there appears to be more than ten reasons. I’ve spoken to a lot of die hard Northwestern fans who are not attending the Ticket City Bowl. These aren’t fake Northwestern fans I’m talking about. These are true bleeders of purple who aren’t going to the game! The reasons range from “trying to save money”... Read more »

So long, Pick Five

Just like the Pick 5, Arby Fields will no longer be available to Northwestern fans. Coach Fitz (who turns 36 today, by the way) has announced NU running back Arby Fields has decided to transfer from Northwestern.  Thus ends Rose Bowl Dreaming’s “Arby for Heisman” campaign. Fields seemed like the go-to running back coming into... Read more »

The Mom Test

Not actually my mom After the jump is an email my mom sent to me following the Penn State loss. (I added emphasis to a few key sentences.) The NU-Penn State game sure was unbelievable.  I missed most of the first half because I was out doing errands.  Came into the house, switched on the... Read more »

Lou Saban, my density has brought me to you (repost)

Editor’s Note: We posted this last year on Back to the Future Day, and figured it was worth it to repost it.  “My name is George McFly, and I’m your density.  I mean, your destiny.” Since today is November 5, which just happens to be National Back to the Future Day, we are going back... Does Pat Fitzgerald Want To Eat Adam Rittenberg? (and other notes)

A few months ago, we asked you all to caption the picture below from Big Ten Media Days. Well, it appears that poor Adam Rittenberg has once again summoned up the courage to stand within arms reach of our very own Coach Pat Fitzgerald.  The results…. well… we will let you judge for yourself after... Would you like some tea with your 2012 schedule, Sir Fitzgerald? (stream of consciousness)

Man, check out all those hits we’re getting on our blog! Damn. But I digress. The 2011 and 2012 schedules came out…take a look. I don’t have enough room to post them here.  2011 is no surprise, and in fact, it’s pretty damn easy. I mean, Army? Come on, they haven’t been good since the Bobby... Read more »
