Why we shouldn't worry about the the facilities announcement delay
The Wildcat faithful were put into a frenzy this week after this very informative Daily article on the status of the facilities upgrades was published. Now, the headline of the article, "facilities on hold," is a bit misleading-- it is more that the facilities upgrades are just seemingly on hold. If you read the article, you will find that the plan isn't actually "on hold" per se, but the trustees and the other decision-makers are really taking their time making decisions. While it is a bit depressing, given the original timetable announced by the athletic department, the fact that the University is taking so much time and care should ease fears, not create them... Play your home games at home
The Wrigley Field game was a good idea. The time was right, the team was building momentum, the new marketing plan of naming Northwestern "Chicago's Team" was working like gangbusters, and this game would serve as the icing on top of the cake-- the final touch that would push that boulder over the hill and begin to make the 'Cats a desirable sports destination in the city of Chicago.
The worst-case scenario happened, both with the game and the execution (the odd playing rules, and yours truly as well as hundreds of other Northwestern fans getting inexplicably moved to the worst seats in the place after shelling out quite a bit of money for supposed "good seats," and given the cold shoulder by the highest offices of the athletic department (I'm not bitter, I swear)), but the idea was still solid........
........ as a one-off novelty event. The ideas like those listed in this Trib article are worrisome... Read more »
THE REAL NU (and other Northwestern notes)
One team that likes to call itself "NU" is 4-1 against the other team that likes to call itself "NU" this season across all sports. If I had said that this would be the case at the beginning of the year, and that the former would be Northwestern and the latter Nebraska, would you have believed me... Read more »

THIS Pat Fitzgerald wouldn't have let others tweet for him, and other NU links
Yes, ok, we all know now that Coach Fitz's twitter account inadvertently pissed off every Chicago's-NBA-Team fan in Chicago. I'm actually surprised this accidental-tweeting-from-the-account-you-manage doesn't happen more often, to be honest. We won't go into detail about this, however. We have much more important things to cover, like this incredible find:
We here at SFTF pride ourselves in scouring the interwebs and introducing to you all of the different "Pat Fitzgeralds" out there, in order to broaden your appreciation for the one we have and open your mind to what else exists in this wonderful world we live in. That being said, how have we never heard of this guy before? Did we totally miss that there were two dudes named "Pat Fitzgerald" who were selected to All-American first teams in 1995 and 1996?? He was also a two-time Academic All-American, and was named to the Texas Longhorns' Hall of Honor this past fall. Impressive.
Personally, as a Bills fan, I'm upset about not remembering that we drafted him with a 7th-round pick in 1997... though we've had more than a few forgettable draft classes, like that year we had 2 first round picks and drafted Ohio State's whole secondary.
Anyway, while the main rags in town have nothing to say other than their recaps of the Purdue drubbing and Twittergate, here's the rest of what our Google search for "Northwestern" turned up this week (after the jump)... Read more »
Pat Fitzgerald Puts The Media In Their Place
… or “Pat Fitzgerald Bites The Hand That Feeds Him.” At his Signing Day press conference, Coach Fitz used part of his opening statement to lay into the recruiting services/websites. It was seemingly meant more in jest than anything else, but it was a little over the top and unnecessary. The catharsis is understandable. As... Read more »
I love when media screws up...
It would be hard to get this past Medill professor David Nelson… Northwestern, which was 3-5 in the Big Ten, looks at the matchup as a chance to build on a strong finish. The Wildcats had a four-game winning streak snapped in a 31-17 loss in the regular-season finale at Michigan State. “Our young men... Read more »

Joe Paterno and the myth of the university
They rioted in the streets of State College, PA Wednesday night for reasons that are hard for a neutral observer to fathom. How could the love of one man go so deep that students would actually protest when he was fired for failing to report child rape to the police? The situation at Penn State... Read more »
He's lost that lovin' feeling...
Did NU’s loss to Michigan have you throwing things against the wall after the ‘Cats allowed 28 unanswered second half points? Or maybe you were looking for unsuspecting Wolverine fans to kick in the nuts in the Ryan Field parking lot. One Spread Far the Fame reader wishes he could feel that anger once again. We... Top 10 Reasons to get FIRED UP for Michigan
Coming off an unacceptable loss to Army and an epic collapse against Ill-ANNOY, the Northwestern Wildcats don’t exactly inspire a lot of excitement. Well, that’s why I’m here. NU is 2-0 this season when I get you FIRED UP and 0-2 when I’m lazy and don’t. So it’s time…legggo. 10. It’s Michigan. You know, the... Read more »
