Following Carlos Rodon's brief outing on Monday night, the White Sox optioned outfielder J.B. Shuck to AAA Charlotte and brought up Erik Johnson to shore up the bullpen, previously devoid of a long man.
Shuck, the lefty bat off the bench and defensive replacement in the OF, was likely sent down instead of Jerry Sands due to the fact that Sands is out of options.
Johnson, the 2015 IL Pitcher of the Year and former top prospect was a favorite for making the MLB rotation until the Mat Latos signing.
In 10.2 innings across two starts this year, Johnson has 12 strikeouts to three walks. Something to keep an eye on is if John Danks keeps sputtering - with the White Sox off to their best start in some time, they may not tolerate Danks' lackluster outings if Johnson impresses at the MLB level.
