The White Sox have sent Erik Johnson back down to AAA and purchased the contract of starter Misguel Gonzalez, who will start on Monday in John Danks' place. Danks is getting skipped in the rotation.
Gonzalez has a 2.45 ERA in 11 AAA innings this season after being signed by the Sox shortly after the season started. Danks is 0-3 with a 6.23 ERA this year despite a solid start on Thursday against the Angels.
Gonzalez is 7-3 with a 2.61 ERA in 13 games against the Blue Jays, who he'll face on Monday, and Danks is 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA in 10 starts against Toronto.
If Gonzalez were to be sent back down, he'd have to be exposed to waivers as he's out of options, so this move could have long-term effects if the team decides to keep Gonzalez around.
Rolling with a 13 player pitching staff doesn't seem like something the Sox would do, but they'd surely have to call up someone like J.B. Shuck, Leury Garcia, Carlos Sanchez or Jason Coats in place of Avisail Garica as they'd need defensive flexibility on the bench.
