Elmo's Underaged Gay Sex Scandal: 5 Truths of The Matter

Elmo's Underaged Gay Sex Scandal: 5 Truths of The Matter
In All His Glorious Splendor.

Kevin Clash, the puppeteer who performs as Elmo on Sesame Street has taken a leave of absence due to recent allegations of having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old boy.  Although Clash admits to the relationship; he said that the other individual was definitely an adult at the time.  The situation was brought to light by the supposed victim who is now 23 years old.  As shocking as a story as it may be, here are the facts:

1. Elmo was never making suggestive gestures with his little furry arms.  Your children were not exposed to the underworld of under-aged gay sex. Grow the hell up.

2. Kevin Clash's accuser came forward and contacted the Sesame Workshop in an attempt to blow the cover off of this scandal.  However, he is now 23 years old.  It's very odd that 7 years have passed and just suddenly this has become something that he needed to get off of his chest.  My thoughts are that there is some bitterness involved and a scorned man knows no limit to expressing that bitterness. In all reality, it could be a huge lie. I am not saying it is, I am only saying it could be.

3. Who gives a shit that the guy was the puppeteer of Elmo? Had Kevin Clash been an ordinary guy working at some 9 to 5 company, and this came to light...his employer would/could not have publicized this.  In reality, it's no one's business but his. It isn't like he is watching your kids for chrissakes! I think the handlers of press at the Sesame Workshop said too much. There should be a fat lawsuit following this.

2. Kevin Clash is gay. My butcher is gay. My friend is. It doesn't make them sexual deviants. It really just makes them gay.  The sexual deviant title can apply to ANYONE.

1. Most importantly, Kevin Clash is human. Elmo is a lifeless puppet that has nothing to do with this whole fiasco. Stop putting him in the mix! Look for the facts in this story before passing judgment and remember Elmo as the loveable, friendly, annoying as shit playmate he has been for decades.

Yeah, leave Elmo out of this! Elmo not gay!
Wait, why Elmo lead picture in this article then?

  • In reply to Wich:

Lol i used the picture to go with the sarcasm in the title. Everyone is looking at this like the guy was somehow polluting the minds of our youth. I wanted to show how silly that notion is.

  • Thanks for keeping things factual and real. I'm going to be honest though, I simply will not be turning on the news when my kids are around, not even for a weather check. I don't need them hearing anything negative about Elmo.

  • In reply to Erin:

Thanks Erin. You are right in shielding your children from this fiasco. The media will have at it.

  • #3: I thought that Kermit the Frog was dead for about 20 years now. But he still appears.

#1: As Bart Simpson would put it, no indication that Elmo has a wiener or showed it. He's just a little boy. And there are those questions about Bert and Ernie.

#2: As posters on TMZ point out, there are references to an investigation by Sesame Workshop, but no indication that they reported it to the law enforcement authorities (compared to what the First Baptist Church deacons did with their Rev., who is now serving time in Club Fed). Your take seems to be in accord with those TMZ posters that this may be a delayed shakedown, but it also might be like a victim of Sandusky or a priest being slow to make allegations.

Somehow, you went from 1 to 3 and back to 1. I'm only commenting on the first three, in the order I chose.

I absolutely love the way this article is written. Kudos to the writer, Joy. I love fact number one. Seriously, a puppet CAN NOT make your kids gay and thank you for clarifying that for the ignorant people. And you are right, it could be a huge publicity stunt on the accusers part and that was not right of Sesame Workshop to release all of this information, it should have been kept private. The way you stated all of these facts was very well, straight-to-the-point, and thank you for summing up this messy scandal for all of us who care, but at the same time don't.

  • In reply to Brittany Robles:

Thanks Brittany, I am glad you enjoyed it. It is crazy how people take a story and run with it and refuse to look at the possibilities and most importantly what our role is in it all. It was not okay for Sesame Street to even comment without knowing the full facts. I knew a guy at work whose ex-wife publicly stated that he had raped his own child. She sent letters to his job and his job let him go. Unfortunately, no one paid attention to the fact that a police report was never filed. Furthermore, when child support stopped coming in, the ex-wife, went to his former employer and begged for his job back stating she lied. The employer publicly apologized but the guy sued and his ex wife lost her kids...

It all could have been prevented had his employer waited for the facts.

Is this supposed to be a joke? How can you say such a stupid, irresponsible thing?

Do you know any victims of sexual abuse? I don't know how you can say such a thing without doing some research. There are a lot of reasons why victims never speak out during the time of the abuse.

I can't even believe there are other readers here who agree with your post.

Is what supposed to be a joke?

Did I put "LOL" all through out my post? I didn't make this a joke. I said, It COULD be a huge lie...

I guess you haven't heard about the victim asking for pay...? You also forgot that the victim said too that they were in a relationship. Of course, a 16 year old is not a consenting adult but it was rumored that the victim lied about his age. And as I mentioned.."my thoughts" arent necessarily facts, just my opinion in the matter. I appreciate you posting though...your comments are appreciated.

  • In reply to xtrmntr:

Ugh...news just in..."victim" recanted. How could you say such a stupid and irresponsible thing? People like you kill me. So quick to imply guilt but never wait for the facts.

  • This has nothing to do with him being gay, but everything to do with him hooking up with a minor. If we worried about entertainers who were gay, we wouldn't listen or watch about 1/4 of them.

You're right that no one would care if he was a 9-5er, but he's profited from his fame as Elmo, and being in the public's eye carries the burden of having your life under a microscope.

It is odd that the accuser waited this long, but one he and the other party know the timing of this.

I wonder too if the accused wasn't a black guy, if you would be supporting him. Kevin seems like a cool guy living the dream, but the relationship is what is was, at least according to the law, sex with minor. If it was a white guy and a white guy, or if it was a 16 year old with an Asian guy, would you feel the same way, or even take the time to write your piece?

My youngest still loves Elmo, and whatever happened is Kevin's personal life, is not going to affect my kid's viewing.

  • In reply to howiehandles:

Seriously, why would color have anything to do with this? Do I write pro-black articles? It doesn't matter what it is...someone...anyone..must bring up race.

Here is the answer to your question: I write my piece because I feel like everyone is making a huge deal out of it because he is associated with Elmo. As I mentioned, the timing is off and no one really knows the facts. Not...because he is black...yadda yadda..

That's highly frustrating that you chose to take that route...but cool. I appreciate you writing.

  • In reply to howiehandles:

Yeah victim just recanted. Just like i thought he would

"I write my piece because I feel like everyone is making a huge deal out of it because he is associated with Elmo. As I mentioned, the timing is off and no one really knows the facts. Not...because he is black...yadda yadda.."

Then is it because he’s gay? You only used that word 4 times. Are u really trying to blame the accuser? If this is true you are the lowest form of life. The facts may prove his innocence but until then I think that we should always error on the side of caution. I for one would rather have to apologize to Jerry Sandusky if he turned out to be innocent then tell his accusers “sorry I didn’t believe you because you waited too long to come forward and that made me suspect your motives.” How stupid does that sound? You don’t want to make this about Elmo, well he’s the one who made it about Elmo by sending a torrid email from his work computer. Sorry but if you work a 9-5 and send crude emails talking about sex from your work computer, despite your position to the contrary, you might get fired. If you work for an educational television program and do it, you SHOULD BE FIRED!

I think because of the fact that Kevin is a Gay black man (and not as you want us to believe in spite of) he is treated with kid-gloves. No one wants to be accused of being homo-phobic or a racist. Yet no one wants to show compassion for the young ALSO GAY accuser. If he was a white male he would have already been in jail, don’t believe me ask Roman Polanski.

Kevin was a hero to me growing up in the Chesapeake bay area. He was a true success story and inspirational character who showed you could live your dreams no matter what they are. But he has admitted that he made “poor decisions” a sentiment reiterated by sesame workshop in their statement. For right now I believe that no one has tried to burn Kevin at the stake, nor has anyone called for the death of Elmo. Every response has been metered, respectful, and balanced. It upsets me that I put more research into my response than you put into your whole piece.

If he is found to be innocent I will welcome him back into my life and the life of my children. Until then “Todd Akin” why don’t you do the world a favor and stop posting snarky condescending self righteous garbage about whether Kevin clash’s accuser is the victim of legitimate rape.

Just a wild guess...this post would read a lot different if the accuser was a woman.

  • In reply to Dallas Jenkins:

I misunderstood what you were getting at so I edited my post. However, that isn't true what you are saying. There are females that do the same thing and lie to ruin a persons career. I never said that if it were true, it wasn't wrong..i just never felt it was true.

Truthfully speaking, had it been a female i would wonder the same.

We aren't talking about kids that were abused by priests that waited because they feared backlash or children who were molested by a family member or stranger and were scared to come forward. I understand that.
The accuser ADMITTed that they had a MUTUAL relationship and he was underaged. So I wondered first if he lied about his age and what motive he had for saying so. If it was a woman, i would have the same questions.

Turns out he was of legal age..

  • Elmo annoys the bejeebus out of me, always has.

  • In reply to Cheryl:

    LOL.

  • Not an Elmo fan, never have been. I always felt he was a bit of an upstart stealing the thunder from his mentor, Grover.

  • In reply to Perplexio:

LOL..you aren't the first who has said that!
