Activities for South Side Kids

Now that school is out for the summer, parents need to know how to keep their kids active in safe environments.  Bessemer Park, at 8930 S. Muskegon, has many.  A Day Camp for children 6 through 12 will begin June 23 and run until August 3, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.  It costs $175.00 but financial assistance may be available if you call (312)747-6023.  For younger children, ages 3 to 5, there is a Play Camp on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 1 pm.  The charge for that is $51.00.

Cubs Care Baseball for 6 to 9 year olds plays from 2 pm to 4 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and is FREE.

Soccer for 6 to 12 year olds is on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm.  The cost for that is $10.00.

Baseball, also for ages 6 through 12, is on Monday, Wednesday  and Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm for $10.00.

For kids who are a less athletically inclined, there are table games for ages 6 to 12 on Tuesday and Thursday morning 8 am to 10 am, or Fun and Games Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the same time.  Both are $10.00.

Little ones from 3 to 5 years old have their own Fun and Games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm.  There is a $25.00 fee for that.

Coming up on June 21, at Rainbow Beach, 311 E. 77th Street, the 4th District Police will sponsor a Summer Fun Fest from 2 pm to 6 pm.  There will be free food, entertainment and games for the whole family to enjoy, along with health screenings and educational services.  Call the 4th District Caps Office at (312)747-1708 to find out more.
