I have a secret. I’m NOT going to run the 2013 Chicago Marathon.
I have run the Chicago Marathon in the past. It was an amazing experience. Someday, I might do it again.
Not in 2013.
Why? There are a plethora of reasons, but basically it comes down to I'm too busy. I love running. Quite frankly, though, I want running to seem fun and not like work. Training for a marathon right now would be a scheduling nightmare for my family, and I have enough work in my life right now.
I will be there to cheer runners on though: screaming, waving, and holding signs. It is just what I do.
With that said, I’m not going to tell anyone that I’m too busy and too lazy. I finally have someone other than myself to blame for not registering for the 2013 Chicago Marathon. The Chicago Marathon registration provider Active.com. WOOHOO!
When The Bank of America Chicago Marathon information came up on my Facebook newsfeed on Tuesday, I was so ecstatic to see that there were technical gliches, and registration was almost impossible. Then, when registration became suspended, I jumped for joy, and ate some Oreos in celebration! I know this sounds mean, but hear me out. You see, I finally can blame someone else for my laziness.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I jumped on that faster than Kimmy K. on Kanye.
Even if it was only for a few more days.
If anyone asks, I’m just going to tell them, “I tried to register, but with all the chaos I decided I would stick with a few 10K’s this summer instead.” BAM! Now, I look like I tried. It is so much easier and better than saying, "I thought about it, but decided I have too many other things running this year… oh and I’m feeling lazy."
Thank you Active.com for messing this up. The Double Stuff Oreos are in the mail for you.
To those that honestly trying to register: best of luck! Turns out you are going to need some. It seems it has been quite difficult for Active.com to take your $175 fee from you. Your Sunday long runs will seem like nothing compared the registration process thus far.
I will be there to cheer you on, maybe with some Double Stuff Oreos at the finish.
