While many of us tend to look immediately and understandably outside of ourselves for expert answers when things go awry with our children—always in search of the perfect parenting strategies, behavioral tips, and general tools to be the best head honchos that we can be—it has become more apparent to me with each passing year that, in actuality, the greatest gift that we could ever offer our children is so simple (well, not exactly simple), but simply put.
Truly, the mother of all gifts, the gem underneath the outer wrappings, is the gift of being a clear mirror for our children offering them the best possible means to succeed as a whole, self-aware, and joyous human being with the capacity to ignite their highest potential.
And to that statement, some readers may shout, "Say what?!?" So let me explain...
Most of us parenting today in 2011 have a truckload of baggage—not so pretty, but quite useful to uncover—mounds of psychic debris hidden away within our interior.
In other words, right underneath the surface of our lovely physical masks and human suits lie some often not so lovely lurking beliefs, patterns, perspectives, wounds, and general imprints that no longer serve our highest good, much less the highest good of our beloved children.
Unknowingly, and therefore, unintentionally, we offer up and out all of these very heavy and dense "gifts" to our children simply by being in their presence, and even more so, through our actual thoughts, words, perspectives, and deeds that are all greatly affected, whether we realize it or not, by our treasure trove of less than wonderful collectibles.
As we are all mirrors for one another, literally reflecting back aspects of each other's inner landscape through our very own energy field, imagine all that is occurring energetically in the parent/child relationship due to proximity and intimacy.
Without being fully conscious of what is occurring, the natural mirror that many of us lovingly offer our children is actually a blurry, grey, cracked mirror that cannot possibly reflect back to them the whole, luminous, creative and powerful being that they actually are simply by birthright.
When looked at from the Soul to Soul Perspective, WHOA is right!
It has been my experience, as well as the experience of so many of my teachers and now students, that working from the inside out—always from the inside out—towards our own magnificent wholeness gifts our children with more than any pedagogical method, behavior modification system, or well-meaning disciplinary action ever could.
While some of these things may be necessary at times, especially in the early stages as the parent initiates a self-healing path, ultimately, it must be understood that all inner work we do for ourselves, we do for our children, and even beyond that, for the world at large. (I always enjoy the largest vision possible. As they say, go big or go home:)
As we move deeper into the 21st Century, our perspectives are expanding at lightening speed. Eventually, responsibility for the energy that we emanate will become a given as it will be clear that it matters more than we ever imagined possible.
Like the sound vibrations that connect with 96.5 FM, we will all want to be sure that WE are dialed into our favorite "radio" station for our children's benefit—the energy frequency oozing from us that offers the best possible reflection of their true nature right back to them at every turn.
Definitely utilize the different methodologies currently out there to create more conscious parenting strategies if you are looking for immediate assistance in the home, as many of them are quite valuable in different ways.
And yet, at the same time, the Soul to Soul Perspective invites you to consider simultaneously the possibility that your own path to awakening—the inner work to create a clear mirror—just might be the true and lasting gift for your child.
There is nothing really new written here as the masters have gently urged us for eons to BE the change that we wish to see in the world and the same goes for in the home.
To really "home-run" a clear mirror vision, I enlist the help of my dear friend Lao-tzu (okay in my dreams we have conversed atop a mountain on many a day) offering his beautiful message and a Soul to Soul Reminder that has been posted in our home for over sixteen years:
"If there is right in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world."
Well, I guess that about sums it up, folks! Off to do a little clearing:)
