I have decided to go forward with trying to organize a neighborhood recycling program in W. Rogers Park. I am not going to publicly chastise those of you who can't be bothered to cart your recyclables to a recycling center. I am going to offer to come to your house, pick up your recyclables and cart them to a recycling center for you for a small monthly fee. Then you can let go of any guilt you might have for flooding Chicago's landfills with materials that can be reused. In essence, I am an absolver of guilt. We all know that we should be recyling, we're all aware of how long it takes for plastic to break down in landfills, how easy it is to reuse glass and how many trees we will save when we recycle paper and cardboard. Kids learn about how important it is to recycle, reduce and reuse in school. We all want to do the right thing for our children and grandchildren. We've already messed things up for them pretty badly, but we don't have to continue down that path. We can change our behavior. Am I right or am I right? So, who's with me?
They don't call me "Soapbox Momma" for nothing!!
