What’s keeping you from becoming your best self? That’s a loaded question for sure, but I ask it because for the longest time there have been three people that have been in my way. Yes I’m naming names and I’m calling them out! Their names are Me, Myself and I! Their cousins are Fear, Success, Ifa , Woulda, Shoulda and Coulda. I’ve let them torment me long enough!
This year has been an amazing year, filled with peaks and valleys, roses and thorns, self discovery and possibly re-born. Somewhere in the valley moments I questioned my purpose simply because it wasn’t going the way that I had planned. It was also in those valley moments that I began to discover who I am and what I am really made of. As Katie Brown would say, “Who’s child are you?” I can laugh about it a little bit now but a few months ago this was no laughing matter. In those valley moments if truth be told that we are pitiful, blame everyone and everything for our situation. Not for any other reason other than it’s easier to point the finger at anyone other than self. We don’t understand or always see what has to move or who has to be removed from our lives in order for the “THE PLAN” to come into fruition. Life or should I say “The Plan” has to be flipped upside down in order to show us that we have absolutely no control over the bigger picture.
Most of the time there is something bigger than ourselves attached to the very thing that we are trying to do. Our connection to our passion is tied to someone else’s purpose and while we’d like to think that it’s all about us, it really is not. It’s about the process of getting to!
My blog today is short and simple. SOMETIMES WE ARE IN OUR OWN WAY! As the younger kids would say “Doing the most” God’s got it but for some reason we think that he needs our help. So we pitch in our two cents and most likely make the situation worse.
Here's what's worked for me: SOMETIMES we just need to MOVE and Get Out of the Way! Stay busy and stay focused on the purpose and allow passion to show up. Now I cannot guarantee that it will work out according to your plan or my plan but it will work out according to “The Plan” I can guarantee that your growth will produce a level of discomfort that can sometimes be unbearable but it's designed to see if you can handle it. I can also guarantee that you will need help along the way, choose your help wisely! NOT everyone is your friend. PRAY about it all, the good, the bad and the ugly and know that IT doesn't last always and IT too shall pass. Even when it doesn't seem like it at the time.
As far as those people that have been in my way, I’ve removed them and replaced them with a team that is fearing less and loving more. A remarkable team that has my front, back, sides and middles. An accountability team to encourage, uplift, promote, check and balance my whimsical ways. Most importantly, I’m learning that when you’ve done all that you can just, MOVE and Get Out of the Way!
So ask yourself what’s keeping you from becoming your best self?
