Self-Sabotage: Are You Guilty of It?

Self-Sabotage: Are You Guilty of It?

By Yolanda (Yanni) Brown

sab•o•tage

Verb ~ To deliberately destroy, damage, or obstruct (something).

I’ve been reading and seeing a lot of posts on Facebook and blogs about speaking positive things into your life.

What I really want to ask is how many of us sabotage the very thing that we speak into existence? I may just be speaking to myself in this blog but if you feel me just let a Chick know.

There have been many days when I can start off my day with a positive statement or reflect on just how awesome my life is--and has the potential to be-- and out of nowhere I am blindsided.

Blindsided by some bad news, a situation that just occurred, a shift happening in life that wasn’t there yesterday or a negative thought that enters into the mix, and I begin to chip away at what was otherwise going to be a great day.

Has this ever happened to you?

Well since I’ve been on this journey to fulfill my purpose and to serve something and someone greater than myself, I’m noticing that it happens more than I care to discuss.  It’s like someone told somebody, who told somebody else that I’m trying to live a life on purpose, according to God’s purpose.

The mind or at least my mind because I can’t speak for anyone else, when it has idled time baby bye! I’ve been known to turn my thoughts into 3D movies with a special outtake reel, including the bloopers.

In all seriousness what I’m learning about this journey is that I am not alone in this!

It’s as if as soon as you realize what you were destined to do, the obstacle course suddenly becomes three times harder than it was before.

Deep breath… Reality check! For too whom much is given, much is required.

This journey requires all of the armor at all times to protect your mind, your heart and your body. The dream-snatchers are out to kill, steal, and destroy your dream and your vision.

I often wonder was it easier when I didn’t have a dream? Did the dream become more challenging when I decided to take the dream to the next level? Whatever the reason, this sabotage is real and if you have a dream you had better dig deep to protect it all cost!

Surround yourself and your dream around real friends who will help you to cultivate, nurture, support and protect it. No, they may not share your dream with you, but they will support you because they believe in you! Stay away from the naysayers! Hang up on them if you have to because their ultimate goal is to plant little negative seeds into your head to create doubt further creating a self-sabotage mentality.

Be careful who you know and hang out with through association, because they too can stir up a negative flow of sabotage in you.  Remember that your own worst critic and blocker can be YOU so incorporate daily prayers, inspirational music, messages, affirmations or   ____________ (Fill in the blank) that will keep you rooted, grounded and protected in your journey.

Last but certainly not least, continue to speak, dream, live and share the life that you want to have into existence while creating a path of faith for yourself.

WE cannot despise the sabotage PROCESS for we have no control over that! However how we walk through the process speaks volume to the testimony that you will have at the end of that process.

I declare that God has a great plan for my life. He knows every disappointment, every challenge, and heartache... While I may not see IT or understand IT I know that there is another chapter in front of me I'm WILLING to walk into IT!

Your turn: What is your positive affirmation for today that will keep you rooted, grounded and protected in the process of your journey?

  • Hello Hello...first of all let me start by saying I LOVE YOU ALL - watching you all on Iyanla's show has changed my life in sooo many positive ways. I can truly relate to today's blog - I start the morning "claiming nothing but positive" and 1 little thing can come thru and shut it down - and I must NOT allow that to happen. I am on my positive journey and I will continue to remind myself that obstacles will come - it's up to me to put them behind me or carry them around with me throughout the day....Bye Bye Obstacles!!! I love the Six Brown Chicks and I look forward every message you all have in your hearts to share with us!!

Surround yourself with people and things that will constantly remind you of who you are and who you desire to be. Cut out the "things" that are not a true reflection of what you desire to represent. What and who inspires you? By filling your surroundings with these people and things, your focus will remain clear and you will reach your goals much faster. When "things" show up that do not line up with your intended purpose, they will stick out like a sore thumb and can quickly be eliminated before they become an obstacle that hinders your process.
