Let’s just put it out there--Omar Epps is sexy a.f. and he has been hitting the gym, hard. He’s a grown ass man, a husband and father, who doesn’t pretend to have everything all figured out.
“As a man, I’m still growing--obviously I’ve grown a lot--but I have a lot more growing to do,” Omar says, thoughtfully. “The way I look at it, I stay childlike in my mind; I just try to have wonderment about the world. And I’m a creative, so I look at things from a different prism.”
Omar and actor/rapper DC Young Fly visited Chicago recently to promote their new film, Almost Christmas.
In Almost Christmas, Omar’s character hopes to rekindle a high school romance with the girl next door, played by Gabrielle Union. Things don’t go as planned because Union’s character has had a bad marriage; thus, the more Omar pursues--the more she breaks her neck to run away.
Omar and Gabrielle’s onscreen issues will hit home for many who have a hard time trusting people after a bad breakup.
Omar offers a bit of advice:
“When people are hurt, that’s natural you’re fearful to be hurt again, you’re protective of yourself,” he says. “If there’s another person there--not to soothe the pain because they’re not a part of that baggage--don’t block your blessings.”
And, trust your instincts, Omar adds.
“When it’s genuine, you’ll know. You just feel that. And a woman doesn’t have to put all that weight of the past into the present. Be in the moment and accept things as they are.”
Almost Christmas opens everywhere on November 11th.
