The Baltimore Riot Mom is a Distraction

The Baltimore Riot Mom is a Distraction
By A Comeaux I’m fresh out of chill or vain desire to beat around anyone’s bush so let me get right in…let’s talk about Baltimore. America loves a good ‘mammy’. They love a solid neck-rolling, two-snaps and an eye lash batting sister whose no nonsense candor gives them chuckles to boot! *cue NeNe on Glee... Read more »

After 20 Years, Match.com's First Hook-Up is Still Together
By Zondra Hughes Mr. Right, where art thou? Two weeks ago, my psychic cousin Erin, from my Irish side of the family, called me at 4 a.m. to deliver the good news: “You will meet your next husband on Twitter.” “Twitter? Really?” I murmured, still half-asleep. And in Erin fashion, she hung up without further... Read more »

8 Summer Beauty Tips to Try right NOW

8 Summer Beauty Tips to Try right NOW
By Courtney Waldon
Winter is over, Spring has sprung, and if you're like me....you're ready for Summer!
Summer where I'm from (Chicago) is full of outdoor festivals, food, concerts and gorgeous weather. We definitely have to look our best while we enjoy all these events, so here are 8 quick beauty tips to get you right for Summer.
1. Less is More. - The highlighting and contouring trend is still alive and well. And while I love it, it has it's place and Summer is not it. You do not want to cake on a ton of product on your skin during the humid summer months. I suggest evening the skin tone with a light tinted moisturizer or CC cream, and using a bronzer with a little shimmer for a subtle highlight. Only place highlighter on the high planes of your face i.e; cheekbones, brow bone, forehead, center of face. My picks to get this look: Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer w/SPF, Mary Kay's CC Cream w/SPF, Mary Kay Bronzer in Medium/Dark, or MAC Cosmetics Bronzer in Soft and Gentle.
2. Skin is in!- If you love Full coverage foundation, try a medium coverage. It will still cover imperfections, but let's your skin show through just a bit.
3. SPF! - SPF should be your BFF. EVERYONE needs Spf no matter what the skin tone, especially during the summer months when we are outside more and baring a little more skin. Wearing sunscreen is proven to prevent melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma; two types of skin cancer. Apply it prior to going out into the sun and reapply throughout the day. Always protect your skin. I repeat...EVERYONE needs SPF! My faves: MD Solar Science Mineral Tinted Cream w/SPF 30, Mary Kay Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50.

My Abortion and What Happened Next

My Abortion and What Happened Next
The Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice controversy may never end.  Because I’m a product of rape and very thankful my mom didn’t have an abortion, I consider myself a Pro-Choice Pro-Lifer. Women should have the option to do what they believe is BEST for THEM. Some people would argue that it should be the decision of both... Read more »

The 3 Things Black Women Won’t Say

We need a sincere dose of honesty that begins first with self, so we can better articulate our wounds to others. Here’s where I’m going with this:... Read more »
