Kym B. attended Susan Taylor's National Cares Mentoring Movement fundraiser event on Tuesday night.
In a statement, Taylor explained her mission:
"When I handed the reins of Essence magazine over to the next team of editors, it was because I was called to do the most important work of our time: ensuring that on our watch, a generation of children would not be lost to staggering levels of street violence, under-resourced schools and communities disassembled by poverty and neglect.
Soldiers of love heard the call and have spent thousands of volunteer hours over the years working to make real the promise of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Beloved Community. In January 2013, National Capital Areas CARES was honored with the White House Presidential Drum Major Service Award for their efforts to ensure the lives of our most vulnerable young.
Just as the CARES team in our nation’s capital is working to ensure and advance our challenged children in the area, we ask that you help to ensure this volunteer army of some of the most devoted men and women in our country. Your generosity will help National Capital Area CARES provide the support, guidance and love our vulnerable children must have so they will avoid predictable futures and become productive and successful contributors to their families, community and country."
