George Zimmerman and DMX To Fight and Everybody Loses

George Zimmerman and DMX To Fight and Everybody Loses
Today was supposed to be Trayvon Martin’s 19th birthday. Sadly, as we all know, that won’t be celebrated anywhere. And that’s because George Zimmerman took his gun and shot Trayvon dead in the chest. I’m not here to get into the justice or legality of anything. There are laws and loopholes that I will never... Read more »

Grammys to Royal Rumble: Sunday Night TV Marathon Running Diary

Grammys to Royal Rumble: Sunday Night TV Marathon Running Diary
Every once in a while comes a night where I can’t decide what I want to watch on TV. Sometimes it’s because, despite having a thousand channels, half of them are news, a third have something involving animals and the rest is some dizzying amalgamation of rehab, housewives and Honey Boo Boo that makes me... Thursday Night Pick: Bengals at Dolphins

Thursday Night Pick: Bengals at Dolphins
Trick or Treat Everybody! My costume today is to disguise myself who makes the right picks for Thursday nights. I bet on the worst team in the league last week, bet against the best team two weeks ago, and have just been cold recently. But do we give up? DID THE US GIVE UP WHEN... Read more »

Thursday Night NFL Pick

Thursday Night NFL Pick
After last weeks rainy snoozefest between Geno Smith and Tom Brady’s WRs without hands, the last thing I need is another defensive battle. Enter the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are the best guarantee for a high scoring game. They’ve totaled 954 yards and 63 points in two games. On the other side, though, they’ve only... Read more »

Hard Knocks Precap: Don't Arm Wrestle James Harrison

Hard Knocks Precap: Don't Arm Wrestle James Harrison
My favorite part about football is the forced self-awareness. The coach screams at you in front of the whole team after missed assignment. You are held captive in a crowded film room to watch replay after replay of each one of your screw-ups, and must acknowledge it happened. In a world where everybody is finding... Read more »

Five Athletes Who Would Be Better Batman Than Ben Affleck

Last night, Twitter exploded in outrage after it was announced Ben Affleck would play Batman in the next "Superman" movie. Perhaps it's because we all became too attached to the Batman series, but nobody was happy with this. I suppose the studio was impressed with how he carried his last superhero role in "Daredevil." There are probably hundreds of people that would have been a better choice, but in the world of athletics, these are the top 5 fits for the role of the Dark Knight.

"Smooth Shaves and Smooth Cocktails" New Amsterdam's Lolla-Kickoff Party

"Smooth Shaves and Smooth Cocktails" New Amsterdam's Lolla-Kickoff Party
Lollapalooza is sloppy. Grass turns to mud after being trampled for days, wine is served in water bottles, and a shocking amount of time is spent in or around outhouses. And don’t even get me started on the high school kids… like I said, sloppy. That’s why I was so skeptical of the them of... Read more »

Stanley Cup Preview

Stanley Cup Preview
The same criterion is touted in every sport’s championship round. It all depends which team is hottest. Well in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals, that variable leaves us pretty much at a draw. The Bruins nearly blew a 3-1 lead against Toronto, finding themselves down 4-1 in the 3rd period of Game 7. Then a... Read more »

Picking the Perfect Bracket - Round 2

We discussed Round 1 earlier. I’m sure you’re all beaming with pride and snarkiness now that all 32 teams you picked have advanced (Editor’s note: Middle Tennessee St got robbed!). Now, like every mother that spoiled rotten their bratty, future-stripper daughters on MTV, let’s move on to give you the perfect Sweet 16! West Region –... Read more »

Bravo to the Blackhawks

I’m insanely superstitious. So when I finally wrote my first post on the Blackhawks, and things looked bleak, I couldn’t help but think that it was all my fault.  Yes, I understand how ridiculous it is to think that somewhere in the karmic universe is a hockey God that would decide the Hawks fate because... I grew up in Pittsburgh and played football for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons from 2006-2010, with one ACC Championship (thank you Reggie Ball). I'm a Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and Bulls fan. We didn't have an NBA team, so I was allowed to adopt Jordan's team. Since moving to Chicago at New Years 2012, the parties in Wrigleyville, nostalgia from Jordan's entrance music, and chills from the Hawks' national anthem all got me to adopt the Second City as my second city.
