“Harry Houdini meets the 21st century.”-Gazette
iMagician Jamie Allan, the United Kingdom’s original “technology magician,” has brought his special brand of magic across the pond to Chicago for its U.S. premiere.
His show, currently running at Harris Theatre, "iMagician: It’s Magic Beyond Belief,” through December 30 uses a combination of high-powered laser beams, digital tablets, iphones--even Facebook and Twitter to take traditional and sleight-of-hand magic to a new level.
Many of his tricks are lifted from the past like the traditional saw-a-lady-in-half trick and Harry Houdini's Chinese Water Torture Cell that become even more magical with his techy twists.
Throughout the performance, Allan shows his great respect for the famous magicians of the past who originated many of the tricks from which he draws.
His personable style and sleight-of-hand holds the attention of even the youngest audience members. He talks about himself and how he learned from some of the masters of magic who he names and tells us a little about throughout his 85 minute show. He also involves audience members both by interacting with some from their seats and bringing others to the stage.
The Laser Levitation: A jaw-dropping illusion in which performers fly over the stage, supported only by laser beams.
Houdini 2.0: Tackles the legendary Harry Houdini’s most dangerous illusions while incorporating modern technology, such as combining immersive video mapping technology with a thrilling underwater escape.
If you're looking for a magical way to spend time with the family over the holidays, this all-ages show may be just your ticket.
