The Pretty Woman musical team was in town yesterday in anticipation of their Broadway bound musical opening at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre Tuesday, March 13.
The show based on the 1990 romantic comedy, Pretty Woman starring Julia Roberts and Richard Geer features Samantha Barks in the Roberts roll as Vivian and Steve Kazee as her love interest Edward.
The classic love story has been re-imagined for today’s audience with a nod to the me too movement.
Two-time Tony Award-winning director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell, spoke at Monday’s press conference telling members of the press that much of the script was written in Chicago and to expect many memorable songs in the score.
The score will include both rock and roll and ballads by chart topping rocker and Grammy winner Bryan Adams along with Jim Vallance.
Pretty Woman: The Musical features a book co-written by the film’s director, the late Garry Marshall, and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.
In addition to Barks and Kazee, the principal cast includes Kingsley Leggs as James Morse and Jason Danieley as Philip Stuckey with Orfeh (Kit), and Eric Anderson (Mr. Thompson).

After its 5-week world premiere run in Chicago (March 13 through April 15) Pretty Woman: The Musical will arrive in New York at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre August 16 after beginning previews July 20.
