Are you ready for Friday Night Flights? No it’s not a typo. Chicago will be turning on the flights on selected Friday evenings this summer.
Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and Choose Chicago have teamed up to showcase Chicago's growing craft beer and brewery scene.
Did you know Chicago is becoming a leader in the Craft Beer Industry? It seems craft beer has taken on a life of its own growing at a meteoric rate. A decade ago, Chicago was home to 10 breweries. Now we have close to 100 breweries springing up in neighborhoods throughout the city.
After some brainstorming Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who remains true to his pledge to increase tourism, came up with the idea to celebrate Chicago’s (second to one) beer scene after reading that Chicago had more microbreweries than any other city except Portland.
The result--Friday Night Flights--six festivals from June to August that will showcase not just craft beer but also Chicago's diverse neighborhoods.
The Friday Night Flights fests will offer a taste of some of Chicago's award-winning beers and diverse array of styles.
“Chicago Friday Night Flights is a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore Chicago’s vibrant neighborhoods and sample a variety of craft beer produced by award-winning breweries,” David Whitaker, Choose Chicago President and CEO said. “Chicago’s amazing craft beer culture is another reason Chicago is the culinary capital of America, including being the home to the only Michelin rated brewpub in the country, Band of Bohemia, awarded a Michelin Star in November.”
The summer series kicks off on Friday, June 2nd in Bridgeport featuring breweries from Bridgeport, Pilsen and Pullman. Beers on hand will include: Mad Mouse Brewing, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Marz Community Brewing Company, Argus Brewing, Whiner Beer Company, Lo Rez Brewing, Alulu Brewpub.
