It's December in Chicago. The city is aglow in holiday lights. Shopping is on the minds of many with this weekend offering two unique events for shoppers and even those who don't normally like to shop,
Plus there's lots to do for those who just want to have fun. Here is a line-up of six of SMC's favorites for this weekend and beyond.
1. An indoor winter wonderland
The 16th Annual Fifth Third Bank Winter WonderFest opens on Friday, December 2 at Navy Pier. This indoor playground offers 170,000 square feet of rides, giant slides, the Chicago Blackhawks indoor ice skating rink and so much more. Friday, December 2 through January 2, 2017. 2. A close shave and whiskey...for a good cause
In celebration of the end of "Movember" and a month of beard-growing--to help raise funds for a cure of prostate cancer--the Chicago Athletic Association hotel is hosting a Whiskey & A Shave Happy Hour at the hotel's in-house boutique, Madison Hall (71 E. Madison St.) from 5 to 7 pm., today Thursday, December 1 in the hotel’s first floor lobby.
The Happy Hour event will offer complimentary barbershop shaves and cocktails to those in attendance.
The free event is open to the public and all CAA Beard-Off participants, supporters, and voters.
3. The perfect gift at a Guaranteed Rate
The Chicago White Sox are hosting their annual Holiday Garage Sale where you may just be able to find that perfect gift for your sports fan from team apparel, autographed memorabilia, game-used items and more. Here's what you need to know to go:
What: Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) garage sale.
Where: The Magellan Scout Lounge at Guaranteed Rate Field (formerly The Cell).
When: Opens to the public on Saturday, December 3, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Parking: Fans can park for free in Lot D/E and enter through Day-Of-Game Employee Entrance in between Gates 2 and 3.
4. Art AIDS America
Today is National AIDS Day. In conjunction with the day, Art AIDS America Chicago is kicking off a groundbreaking visual art exhibition, Art AIDS America that will serve as the catalyst for a citywide dialogue on the cultural impact of HIV/AIDS.
The exhibition will feature art and public programming at the newly constructed Alphawood Gallery (2401 N. Halsted Street) now through April 2, 2017.

5. One of a Kind Show
Whether you are shopping for gifts for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kawanzza or just want to treat yourself, you can be pretty sure you'll find that something special from the somewhat overwhelming array of items available from over 600 artist/vendors at The One of a Kind Show.
Tickets, $12. Merchandise Mart, 7th floor, 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza. Thursday, December 1, 11am-8pm, Friday, 11am 8pm, Saturday, 10am-7pm, Sunday, 10am-5pm.
6. BrewLights...a beary fun adult night at the zoo
The Lincoln Park Zoo's Brewlights, is an adult only gathering amidst the magnificent holiday Zoolights Festival.
