New Years Eve 2016: Show Me Chicago's guide to happenings around town

2017 is just around the corner. You've made it through the holidays and now it's time to make your resolutions and then go out and celebrate!'

But where?

With so many choices from neighborhood bars, to the big city brew ha ha to your family-room flatscreen, it's not easy to decide. Show Me Chicago has whittled down the celebrations to a precious 10 from naughty to nice starting with the biggie...

Chi-Town Rising

chi-town-rising-new-year-party-ae-0927-201509251. Not only is Chi-Town Rising, the city's biggest celebration, it is also Chicago's most budget friendly NYE celebration with the price of admission free.

Now in its second year, Chi-Town Rising takes place over the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive with food and drink for purchase, live entertainment, a countdown display with a 70-foot star rising at midnight 360 feet up the west tower of the Hyatt Regency Chicago (151 E. Wacker Dr.) and fireworks. The event kicks off at 11pm.

For families and those who want to get bed early there's a free family celebration and countdown starting at 3pm in Millennium Park, hosted by the Chicago Cultural Mile Association.

2. Cruz Blanca

Rick Bayless is at it again with his new hotspot Cruz Blanca (904 W. Randolph Street) that has been packing them in since opening earlier this year. The casual brewery and taqueria is going all out with a trendy NYE celebration featuring an inclusive package of three drinks (Cruz Blanca beer, cocktails, wine) passed tostaditas, and your choice of Oaxacan specialty: taco plate, cheesy shrimp encamaronadas or tlayuda (Mexican pizzas) with additional food and beverage available for purchase.

New specialty beers will be tapped every hour on the hour, from 8pm until midnight and a live DJ will be providing the entertainment. 

Tickets are required for the Cruz Blanca NYE party starting at $40. 

3. Legoland

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago is set to pop into 2017 with the return of Chicagoland’s kid-friendly New Year’s Celebration! On Saturday, Dec. 31, guests are invited to the Center to bring in 2017 with fan-favorite balloon drops taking place at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Streets of Woodfield, 601 N. Martingale Rd. Schaumburg, IL.

4. Remedy Barremedybardiscoball

A neighborhood favorite for the Logan Square/Bucktown crowd, Remedy Bar (1910 N Milwaukee Ave.) is offering a No Cover New Year's Eve bash--especially for those looking to party into the wee hours.

The celebration on Saturday, December 31 runs from 4pm to 5 am on January 1.

Remedy Bar offers an eclectic craft cocktail list, a local brewery-driven beer list, plus a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.

5. Navy Pierfireworks

Navy Pier's (700 E. Grand Ave.) annual NYE party inside the tropical glass bubble, Crystal Gardens, is on for Saturday, December 31 from 9pm to 2am. The opulent setting featuring a one-acre botanical garden inside a six-story glass atrium is the perfect backdrop for the celebration that features premium top shelf drinks, a Stefani Signature Restaurants food station package, party favors, a champagne toast at midnight and a premier view of the midnight fireworks show from a private terrace.

Tickets start at $99 per person with VIP tickets starting at $149 per person Reserved Guaranteed VIP Tables are available from $199 per person.

6. Noon Year’s Eve at Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

peggy-notebaert-nature-museumIt's a family friendly New Year’s Eve celebration with do-it-yourself eco-friendly party favors, games, a dance party and a "noon" ring in for the New Year complete with an apple juice toast and a visit from this year’s Nature Museum Party Animal. Tickets: Adult $20, members non-members $25; Children $10.

7. Raised


Celebrate the New Year at Raised, An Urban Rooftop Bar and Staytion Market & Bar.

Two of the city’s hottest new bars, Raised, An Urban Rooftop Bar and Staytion Market & Bar both located inside The Renaissance Hotel (1 W. Wacker Drive) are hosting New Year’s Eve bashes to ring in 2017.

The upstairs gala, at Raised, features passed appetizers, unlimited draft beer, wine, champagne, and other creative cocktails. Plus there's live entertainment, Rat Pack style, and dancing. The event runs from 9pm to 2am with cocktail attire requested. The tab is $150.

Downstairs at Staytion Market & Bar the party, includes food, beverages and live music for a budget-friendly tab of $85. Tickets may be purchased here.

8. Easy Bar

Get ready to rock this New Year's Eve at Wicker Park's Easy Bar (1944 W Division St.) with DJ Dave Duchek. The all-inclusive package includes private access to the back room, top shelf liquor, beer, wine, Red Bull, a food buffet and, of course, a champagne toast at midnight. The $60 to $70 package can be purchased here.

9. New Year's Eve at Estelle's

Calling all party animals. This free admission celebration set in the smokey art deco décor of Estelle's (2013 W North Ave) features a late night New Year's celebration with food, drinks and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. The party goes from 5pm to 5am.

Located in the heart of the Six Corners in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood, Estelle's is a super option for those not looking for a bar package.

10. At the Theatre

You can never go wrong with theater in Chicago. Many theaters are offering special pricing and events on New Years Eve such as the one at Remy Bumppo Theatre Company's afternoon performance of Pygmalion--the show critics call "Captivating," "Verbally sparkling," and "Terrific."

After the December 31, 2:30pm performance, the audience is invited to share a complimentary champagne toast to the New Year with the cast and crew of the show. Click here to purchase your tickets.
