SONIC Drive-In Booms into Chicago's Fast Food Lanes with First Chicago Location
The made-to-order SONIC burger is the chain's top selling menu item

SONIC®, who’s bills itself as “America’s Drive-In®,” will be opening its first Chicago location on Tuesday, May 6th, at an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in its new uptown home at 1022 W. Wilson Avenue.

With May celebrating "National Burger Month," the burger wars in Chicago will be hotter than ever with the addition of SONIC--the popular eatery, known for its famous skating "Carhops," made-to-order fast food and 24/7 service.

The new space will feature an outside covered patio, a double drive thru, nine stalls for carside service and an indoor dining room with amenities including a fireplace and free Wi-Fi.

Be one of the first 200 people to swing by Tuesday's grand opening celebration and you will receive a free limited-edition SONIC Chicago t-shirt, and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to be one of 20 guests to win a free combo meal every week for an entire year. Plus SONIC will be providing free samples, balloons for kids and other SONIC swag.

The foot-long coney

Recently named the 11th most popular fast food restaurant in the USA by Business Insider magazine, Chicagoans will now be able to get a taste of SONIC's iconic offerings.

Popular food items on the SONIC menu include: Coneys and hot dogs; "Real Ice Cream treats" including sundaes, blasts and shakes; "Tots"; their colorful specialty drinks, slushes and #1 selling made-to-order burgers.

The SONIC chain, hopes to add 1,000 new drive-ins over the next ten years, and is actively seeking additional franchisees in Chicago.

With the uptown location finally coming to fruition, after a couple of false starts, SONIC franchisee Seth Wolken of BOOM Enterprises, LLC is glad to finally have it up and running saying “We are so thrilled to open our drive-in and introduce SONIC’s unique menu offerings and drink combinations to the Chicago community.”

Hours and information

Opening day, Tuesday, May 6, will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by the public opening at 11 a.m.  Once open SONIC will be a 24/7 operation, with the drive-in open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and the drive-thru open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
