March Madness at Chicago's I Dream of Falafel: Challenges You to Create Your Own Wrap Bracket.

March Madness at Chicago's I Dream of Falafel: Challenges You to Create Your Own Wrap Bracket.
Falafel Sweet Potato Wrap from I Dream of Falafel.

CHICAGO, Monday, February 4, 2013. Have you ever dreamed of falafel? Do you even know what falafel is? Can you pronounce falafel? If you answered yes to all three questions, you may skip the next paragraph and proceed to the contest rules.

If you are reading this paragraph, it means that you may need a quick primer on falafel--so here goes: Falafel (pronounced fuh-lah-fuh) is a Middle Eastern treat that is widely believed to have originated in Egypt where it often was served as a type of fast food or street food.  It is a deep fried ball or patty that is made most commonly from chickpeas (garbanzos) or fava beans and seasoned with spices. It can be served as an appetizer with a dipping sauce such as tahini and hummus or it can be served in a wrap as a sandwich. Falafel is popular with vegetarians but is rapidly becoming mainstream. It is also popular during Lent as a replacement for meat. Warning: it can become addictive. I had my first taste of falafel only a few years ago at Dawali Mediterranean Kitchen in Albany Park when restaurants serving the delicious treat were few and far between.  Whenever I developed a craving, I had to leave my neighborhood to satisfy it. Now restaurants serving falafel are popping up everywhere from Chicago's Loop to the far out burbs.

Contest Rules.

I Dream of Falafel in the Loop and Oakbrook Terrace has dreamed up a way to tie the upcoming March Madness together with a special March Madness ‘Create Your Own Wrap’ Bracket' contest--a chance to bring out your inner chef. Here' how it works:

First pick your favorite ingredients from the I Dream of Falafel Menu and create your ultimate wrap.

Then from March 1 through March 15 submit your wrap creation to or the I Dream of Falafel Facebook page specifying each ingredient and quantity.

From March 19 through April 7.
Chef Henry Nuguid will pick the top two wrap submissions on March 19. These two selected wraps will battle it out where I Dream of Falafel customers will have the chance to vote for their favorite wrap by ordering it in stores or voting on Facebook. I Dream of Falafel will tally the wrap totals and the wrap with the most sales and Facebook votes wins.

NCAA Championship Game Day Monday, April 8.
The winner will be announced right before the game begins and will receive a $100 I Dream of Falafel gift certificate along with their winning wrap featured as a special menu item at all four I Dream of Falafel locations the entire month of April.
