Chicago Welcomes Home the Heroes 2012: Schedule of Events.

CHICAGO, December 11, 2012. This weekend, Chicago will pay special tribute to our Iraq War Veterans and all veterans with the Chicago Welcomes Home the Heroes events on Friday, December 14 and Saturday, December 15. In addition, the events will show our continued support for our troops in Afghanistan.

If you are a Veteran, Active-Service Member, or Military Family Member and would like to participate in the Parade, there is still time--just click on the link above to register.

Those who would like to show their support for these brave men and women are invited to attend the two events listed here.

Reading of the Fallen Ceremony.

The Reading of the Fallen Ceremony will take place Friday, December 14, beginning at 9:11a.m. at the Thompson Center Outdoor Plaza, (100 W. Randolph Street). At this ceremony the names of 6,525 men and women lost in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars will be read honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The reading, which will be dedicated to Gold Star Families, begins at 9:11 a.m. and will continue until all names have been read.

Parade for Post-9/11 Veterans.

After every war in modern U.S. history, our nation has honored our Veterans with parades. To mark the one year anniversary of the end of the Iraq War, the Chicago Welcomes the Heroes parade will be held to recognize and honor this current group of Veterans in the same manner.  While this parade is dedicated to Post-9/11 Veterans, the entire military community and their families are invited to participate and be honored.  The Parade for Post-9/11 Veterans will step off at noon Saturday, December 15.  The parade route runs from Columbus Drive between Balbo Drive and Monroe Street in Grant Park.
