CHICAGO, July 16, 2012. City Winery Chicago will be opening its doors in the West Loop this August. The city’s newest concert venue and only fully operational winery, will serve up a hearty slate of Wine Events for vinophiles of all tastes and vintages.

The 30,000-square foot venue at 1200 West Randolph, in a former warehouse, features a variety of spaces for dining, wining, and entertainment.  It is a unique facility that combines a fully functioning winery with intimate concerts, food and wine classes, private events and fine dining in a sophisticated atmosphere.

Chicago is the second location for Founder and CEO Michael Dorf's innovative bar/restaurant/winery/education center/concert venue concept. The other City Winery is located in Manhattan where it opened in 2008 taking the western Soho part of town by storm.

Just as in the Big Apple, the City Winery Chicago is targeting individuals who are passionate about sharing wine, music, and culinary arts.

Highlights include: ongoing wine and Mediterranean small plates menu; Sunday Klezmer brunches, under the direction of Chef John Fuente and Beverage Director Rachel Speckan; special Wine Events from holiday Champagne tastings; and hands-on classes that range from wine history to winemaking.

The various events will take place inside City Winery Chicago’s intimate Barrel Room (amidst wine barrels), the more spacious Mezzanine Dining Room, or the 300-seat Performance Space. Inaugural Wine Events include:

Virtue Cider Dinner with Greg Hall.
Thursday, August 23, 2012, 7pm; $75
Join Greg Hall, former brewmaster of Goose Island Beer Company, as we explore the versatility of cider alongside a coursed meal. Hall launched his local cider company, Virtue Cider, in April 2012. His cider is grown, picked, pressed and produced locally with heirloom apples. RedStreak, Virtue's first release, was crafted after months of hands-on international cider research with both table and bar in mind. It’s an amalgamation of three ciders pressed from seven types of apples fermented with three different yeasts. This cider is bracingly dry, not at all sweet, and a bit heftier than one may expect, perfect for food pairing.

With their reckless, rocking country style, the Wacos will put on a thrilling performance.  As for the wines, well, they will also be rock stars. With tight leather pants, worn cowboy boots and twang, this selection of wines will keep patrons in tune with the music.

Lost Bayou Ramblers - Gumbo & Cab Fest.
Thursday, August 30, 2012, 8pm; $10

Born deep in South Louisiana performing old-style, predominantly acoustic Cajun music, the Ramblers have created a new sound that combines not just the sounds of their heritage, but the musical influences they grew up loving. Music will be paired with the deep notes of black fruit in Cabernet Sauvignon, but also the high tones of tomato and spice in the best Southern style gumbo, red beans and rice and maque choux.
