Chicago's Farmers Markets 2012: Fill Up on Fresh.

Chicago, Monday, April 30, 2012. Farmers Markets are sprouting around town side by side with the tulips. Many neighborhood markets will be returning to their roots for their 33rd go-around starting Saturday, May 12. The downtown market season officially kicks off on Thursday, May 24 at Daley Plaza while some markets in the suburbs are already open.  Here is a list of returning markets along with some new additions.

THE GREEN CITY MARKET.
The Green City Market is a large outdoor market located in Lincoln Park. The in addition to an impressive selection of organic, unsprayed and conventional produce, Green City offers chef demonstrations, samplings, events, a picnic area and a beautiful setting. The first outdoor market of the season opens Saturday, May 5.  Hours are 7a.m. to 1p.m., Saturdays and Wednesdays through October. South end of Lincoln Park between Clark and Stockton Drive.

MCA MARKET.
The Museum of Contemporary Art hosts a City of Chicago Farmers Market on its plaza every Tuesday. Vendors at the European-style open-air market offer a colorful variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, cut and potted flowers, baked goods, cheeses, spices, and more. IN THE BURBS.

WILMETTE. The 2012 Wilmette French Market is open for business in the Village Center adjecent to the Metra Northline parking lot.  The market, which opened April 28th will run every Saturday (8 am – 1 pm) through November 3rd. Expect to find a variety of traditional farmer’s market goods, like fruits, vegetables, flowers, cheeses, meats and breads from local and regional vendors.

EVANSTON. The Evanston Farmers Market opens Saturday, May 5th and runs through November 3rd. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This large market offers a good selection of organic vegetables along with a variety of produce, meats, cheeses, sweet treats and more. Location: Intersection of University Place and Oak Ave. (just east of East Railroad Ave.)

OAK PARK. The Oak Park Farmers' Market opens Saturday, May 19.  The market offers high quality, locally grown produce in the friendly, historic Village of Oak Park surrounded by the sounds of live bluegrass music, the smell of freshly made donuts and the profusion and variety of nature's bounty. Market hours are 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. Pilgrim Church, right next door to where the market is held, offers fresh warm donuts, juice and coffee, with live bluegrass music nearby. The Oak Park Farmers' Market is located at 460 Lake St.,  just one block west of Ridgeland Avenue.
