Chicago, Tuesday, August 23, 2011. It's no coincidence that number 23 is debuting his latest venture, the Michael Jordan Steak House today on the 23rd of August. The restaurant, on the second floor of the InterContinental Hotel at 505 N. Michigan Avenue in the heart of the Mag Mile, is located across the street from Michelin Bib Gourmand winner The Purple Pig (500 N. Michigan).
Time will tell if Michael Jordan's newest eatery will join its neighbor in the coveted Chicago edition of the Michelin Guide, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. MJ promises to strive for perfection with his new digs just as he did in his past life on the hardwood--and we all know how that turned out. Until then, diners can enjoy an upscale contemporary atmosphere, first-class dining, an elegant lobby bar and perhaps even a glimpse of the man himself.
The menu offers few surprises--showcasing what diners want in a traditional steakhouse without over thinking the concept. In addition to the highly-touted 28 day dry-aged prime beef and the 45-day dry-aged Delmonico steak, you'll find the number 23 making some special appearances on the menu. If you don't see it on the price side, look for it in ounces with the 23 oz. bone-in prime rib-eye steak: or in the ingredients list featuring a 23-ingredient chopped salad. Dessert affectionados won't be able to resist the 23-layer chocolate cake with chocolate-coffee ganache enveloped in whipped cream. Other options include crab cakes, wild Alaskan Salmon, lobster-corn hush puppy, Key Lime Bombe and more.
The restaurant will be open daily for lunch from 11a.m. to 2:00p.m. and reopen at 5:00p.m. for dinner. 312 321 8823.
The Chicago locale is the latest offering for the Michael Jordan Steak House, part of the Glazier Group. The two other locations include New York's Grand Central terminal and the Mohegan Sun Hotel in Uncasville, Oxoboxo River, CT.
