They're back!   The City of Chicago's 2010 Farmer's Market Season kicks off today at Daley Plaza.  The citywide system includes 22 markets located throughout the metro area. All markets offer seasonal produce.  Expect to find organic and non-organic fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, cheese, breads, flowers, honey, jam, pies, nuts and plants.

Don't miss the following farmers at the Daley Plaza Market:
The Amish booth out of Indiana sells noodles, woopie pies, cheese and more. (In case you were wondering how they get here, they hire a driver).
You'll definitely want to see the Bee Guy, at Kress Apiary also from Indiana, with his live bees and organic raw honey.  You can watch the bees making the honey with your own eyes.  Don't worry, they are behind glass.
Another fav is the Rise 'n Roll Bakery, an Amish booth that sells to-die-for cashew brittle, blueberry pies and more.
Stop by the Nichols family booth, 2nd generation farmers from Marengo, IL., for a mouth-watering  selection of seasonal produce.

THEATER THURSDAYS goes to Theater Wit.

Check out Chicago's newest performance space, Theater Wit, with a backstage tour tonight from 6:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. followed by the Penny Penniston, comedy Spin at 8:00p.m. The theater carries out the trendy raw look popular in Chicago's Storefront Theaters with some thoughtful additions including a seven-stall ladies' room way larger than comparable sized theaters, oversized ductwork to keep things cool, and decorative posts for leaning. The new performing facility contains three intimate 99-seat theaters and a lobby bar.  Founder, Jeremy Wechsler, said before his theater's recent opening, "I want this to be the nicest storefront theater in town."  It looks like he may have just pulled this off. You can see for your self at tonight's happening. 1229 W. Belmont. Event 6:30p.m., Show 8:00p.m., followed by complimentary coffee and desserts.  $25. Reservations 773 975 8150, please mention "Theater Thursdays."

NEARBY DINING.
RISE.
In a few words I would describe Rise as a somewhat noisy, smart, sexy upscale Asian Sushi and Sake Lounge.  The menu is huge and offers a wonderful selection of fresh fish flown in daily.  For non-sushi lovers there are noodle dishes as well as soup.  For first timers, I would suggest the Chef''s Creation Sushi Flight and the Flaming Maki. There is an extensive drink menu with a lot more than sake. Favorites include dirty martini's and mojitos.  The only compliant I've heard about Rise is that  the service can be a little uneven.  If the weather is nice you may want to check out their inviting patio for dining. 3401 N. Southport. Reservations: 773 525 3535.  If you don't have reservations and it is busy you can usually get a seat at the Sushi Bar.

IF YOU ARE STILL HUNGRY
Anthony's Homemade Italian Ice, just across the street from Rise is a 5-star treat.  The ices are all yummy but my favorite is the chocolate ice.  They also serve Bobtail ice cream. 3442 N. Southport Ave. 773 868 4237
