Chicago Blackhawks: 10 Great Spots For Watching the Playoffs

Just in case you don't have a ticket for the United Center or the Hawks are playing away, the following offer a good alternative for watching the game with like-minded fans.

RIVER NORTH

1. District Bar. (Closed)
170 W. Ontario St.
312 337 3477.

District Bar has 40 flat screens for your viewing pleasure along with daily specials and above average bar food.  Tuesday specials include $5 burgers with fries and $3 drafts.

2. Mother Hubbard's Sports Pub.
40 W. Hubbard
312 828 0007

Mother Hubbard's is a huge Blackhawks fan if the Blackhawk in their front window accounts for anything.  View the game on their 40 television monitors and 4 jumbo screens.  They offer a full restaurant menu but Blackhawks fans may want to order the "Sloppy Hockey Joe" with a souvenir puck.

LINCOLN PARK.

3. Michael Diversey
670 W. Diversey Parkway
773 327 7040

From their website, "We’re the Madhouse on Diversey. If you can't make it to the game you'll want to watch the game here.  We even have a Blackhawk intro video, goal light, Chelsea Dagger and goal horn to celebrate."

4. John Barleycorn.
658 W. Belden
773 348 8899

John Barleycorn's, a longtime Chicago establishment, is offering a playoff special for Hawks fans: a $7 14-inch thin crust cheese pizza with one topping.  Other specials include $1 sliders and $15 Bud Light buckets.

UKRAINIAN VILLAGE

5. Mac's American Pub.
1801 W. Division St.
773 782 4400

Mac's American Pub, a smallish neighborhood spot, serves some interesting food choices along with bar specials.  Game specials include: $3 Paddy Old Irish Whiskey shots and $3.50 Point Pale Ale.

WEST LOOP.

These two spots in the West Loop are almost spitting distance from the United Center...so you may have to deal with crowds and traffic but you definitely can bask in the nearby action.

6. The CrossRoads Bar and Grill.
1120 W. Madison St.
312 243 1113

CrossRoads has created a special playoff drink, the "Bloody Canuck" in response to the bloody accident in game five of the conference semifinals.  The pub also is known for its good food and great burgers.  Watch the game on TV's located in all four corners of the space.

7. Beer Bistro, 1061 W. Madison, 312 433 0013

Dine on $2 burgers, the Tuesday special, at Beer Bistro.  Wash them down with a choice of over 130 brews.  If you are going with a group of 5 to 20, you may want to try to reserve their special enclosed red-velvet booths area with a dedicated flatscreen.

WICKER PARK.

8. Division Ale House.
1942 W. Division St.
773 384 6886

A relatively new spot that refers to itself as "your friendly neighborhood Irish bar & grill."  The Division Ale House offers daily specials including $4 Bells Oberon Drafts, $4 Absoluts and $6 Burgers on Tuesdays.  Watch the game on their 80-inch flatscreens.  If you're staying for the duration, you may want to try their famous Beer Tower, an 80-oz monster beer pitcher, which is actually a portable tabletop tap fitted with an interior ice cylinder.

WRIGLEYVILLE

9. John Barleycorn.
3524 N. Clark
773 549 6000
(you may want to avoid this location during Cubs night games, Tuesday, May 18)

John Barleycorn's, a longtime Chicago establishment, is offering a playoff special for Hawk fans: a $7 14-inch thin crust cheese pizza with one topping.  Other specials include $1 sliders and $15 Bud Light buckets.

  • Carole,

We love the round up! However, we did notice one small error. Mother Hubbard's Sports Pub is located at 5 W. Hubbard St. Chicago, Illinois in the River North neighborhood rather then the location you noted on West Hubbard.

    Best regards,

The friendly staff at Mother Hubbard's Sports Pub
