I'm pretty certain that their employees have read every book on their shelves. I'm a pretty avid reader, and they've always been spot on with suggesting another book I'll love. Often their suggestions aren't the "big name" authors, but equally fantastic "unknown" writers.

While I've shopped at Anderson's over the years, I did learn something new through this challenge. Grandpa opened the Naperville location in 1964. The original location was above their great-great grandfather's drugstore: W. W. Wickel Pharmacy (opened in 1875). His son-in-law, Oswald, also played such a big role in the pharmacy, that it soon just became known as Oswalds (remember this place from Day 115?). So, really, the Anderson family has been in the small-business world for over 135 years. I had no idea the two businesses were linked.

Besides books, magazines, and a small toy section, Anderson's is known for it's author signings. I've seen Dave Berry, Jen Lancaster, and Gary Paulsen; I also took my son to see Stan Mikita. Look who's going to be there this Saturday!
