Here's the true test of shopping small, a hungry kid. Granted, I have been known to get a little crabby when I'm hungry too...probably worse than the kids. So, that was our challenge today. I had no problem passing the endless rows of chain restaurants, but it was sad seeing just as many closed up small businesses. Support your mom & pop shops!! So, that is how we ended up at Preno's.
Preno's has been around for over 20 years, and there probably isn't much that's changed since the day they opened. Example? Fountain drink beverages are Nehi! Nobody seems to mind, the place was full with more taking their orders to go.
Gyros, burgers, grilled chicken...they aren't fancy, but it's good food at great prices. They aren't concerned with social media though; no website, no facebook. So, the best I can offer is their address and phone number:
311 Veterans Pkwy, Bolingbrook, IL
Just because you need a quick meal, or a snack to curb grumpy hungries, doesn't mean you have to succumb to chains. Especially with spring & summer coming up, find the locals near your activities. You'll find plenty of baseball & soccer fields, plus an aquatic center, right down the street from Preno's.
On a side note...do you consider Portillo's a small business? Local, yes. Private, yes. Small? Not sure. Thoughts?
