Happy Retirement Patrick Sharp - sorry to see you go but it sure was fun while it lasted.
Speaking of the Blackhawks - what a downer - first time not in the playoffs for 10 years - this is a real drag not having our Blackhawks even make it into round one of the playoffs. Bummer. And what has happened to Corey Crawford? He's been out since December with that "upper body" injury. Hmmm - Crawford's been out for months and the Blackhawks don't make the playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons - anybody else see a connection here?
Tragic bus crash in Canada claims the lives of 15 players/coach of Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team on their way to a playoff match - such a horrible story. NHL honors the team by having players all wearing Broncos on their jerseys in tonight's matches. A touch of class honoring their memories.
Master's tournament - leader Patrick Reed has a 3 shot lead over nearest competitor Rory McIlroy and if Reed continues his hot play he will be sporting a Master's green jacket tomorrow. Now the question is - how will he fare being paired with Rory who is a 4 time major winner? Should be a good final round. And just to prove to all of us that even pro golfers are human - last year's Champion Sergio Garcia shot a 13 on the 15th hole hitting 5 straight in the water. Yes that is correct a 13 - 8 over par on the one hole - he ended up shooting an 81! Talk about first to worst - winning last year and having a Tin Cup moment in this year's Master's tournament assuring he would miss the cut and not be playing on the weekend. OUCH!
How SWEDE it was for Sweden's Pernilla Lindberg having her first win on the LPGA Tour be the ANA Inspiration - a major championship (many of us still call it the Dinah Shore or Kraft/Nabisco but thanks to ANA (All Nippon Airways which is the largest airline in Japan) it has a new name and big bucks support. If you're going to win on the tour for the first time - might as well be at a major. Way to go Pernilla!
And last but not least - gotta give a shout out to the Loyola Ramblers on their unexpected and very exciting run in the NCAA Men's basketball tournament. Yes I got caught up in rooting for this team and for the special moments with Sister Jean - it was a fun run for a very talented team that seemingly came out of nowhere. And the final shout out is to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame whose women's basketball team won the ladies Championship (any year that the UConn Huskies don't win is a bonus in my book!). And with my Lady Vols nowhere to be found in the women's tourney I pulled for any team not called UConn. Besides, how can you not root for a team coached by a lady named Muffet!
GO Cubs GO!
