Oh Those Shoes!

Oh Those Shoes!

The Chicago Sky were clicking on all cylinders tonight dominating the entire game from one end of the floor to the other...and it was awesome fun to watch in person. Add to this that my group was sitting courtside and you have one top notch viewing experience. The final score was Sky 98 and Mystics 72 - a double digit win for the Sky who played like a real team tonight with six players scoring in double digits led by our MVP Golden Hoops Goddess Elena Delle Donne who had 18 points leading all scorers in the game. Throw in Quigley, Pondexter, de Souza, Breland and Young also scoring double digits and you come up with a BIG win. This bodes well for our Sky team that started the season 1-4 and now have evened up to a 4-4 record and moved up to 3rd in their division after being in the basement a short time ago. BOO YA - you go girls.

If you ever get to watch a pro hoops game from courtside - grab at the chance because it is an entirely different and exciting way to see a game. You hear the coaches yelling, calling plays, and giving the refs heck on certain calls; you hear the players calling out plays and see the point guards pointing where their teammates should go; you also have to be alert because you can have a player land in your lap when they're chasing down the ball. You see players making faces, faking out defenses, finding an open lane and flying to the hoop. For me, I loved one play featuring Delle Donne - Tamera Young saw her breaking toward the foul line, threw her the ball, Delle Donne faked out her opponent and saw the lane was open and scored easily....sweet play. The entire team was ON tonight making sweet play after sweet play and toughening up on defense only allowing the Mystics to score in the teens in 3 out of the 4 quarters.

Tonight it was great to see our rookie Imani Boyette get more playing time and she seems to be coming along nicely gaining more confidence and having a good game in the post defensively and offensively. Tough to see Betnijah Laney go down in the game with an injury and leaving the court only to come back out on crutches...not sure what her injury is but hope she recovers quickly. Also great to see Sloot back on the court after being out in some prior games with an ankle injury...she is a superb point guard and when she's on the court, the team feeds off of her guidance and quickness.

Okay so not all things about the game are about the players, the scoring, coaching or the outcome...sometimes it's about their SHOES. Yes, I said shoes...My friend Jodi went crazy over Elena's hot Nike shoes which led us to nickname her the Golden Goddess since the shoes were white with gold flaps that look like the wings of the Goddess Nike. Nike in ancient Greek religion, was a goddess who personified victory, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory. I personally can't recall if I've seen Delle Donne in these shoes in earlier games and I've seen all their 2016 games to date but tend to pay more attention to the actual game and now what they're wearing. It is fun to hear others bring up things like the players shoes or noting the variety of tattooes  and players hair color. I do agree that Elena's shoes are pretty cool and very befitting the player wearing them...our own Goddess of Victory (yes with a little help from her teammates to be sure!).

Up next for the Sky is a trip to Indy to face the Fever on Friday June 10, Sunday June 12 to Phoenix to play the Mercury and Tuesday June 14 to LA to face the Sparks....a tough road trip coming up against what should much tougher competition than the Mystics proved to be the last two games. Save travels to the Sky and let's keep this 3 game winning streak going! GO SKY....
