The Sky Is Falling

Yes, "the Sky is falling" is a quote from a children's story called Chicken Little and tonight that is how I am feeling after seeing the Chicago Sky fall to the Connecticut Sun 69-79. When the game started out (and by the way, welcome back Sylvia Fowles and Elena Delle Donne who both scored in double figures) the Sky looked strong and they were up by 12 points at one time in the first half. When the team returned to the court for the second half, they left their offense in the locker room only scoring 10 points (going scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter) while the Sun dropped in 27 points in the 3rd quarter.

It was like some other team came out in the 2nd half and unfortunately for us, Alyssa Thomas, the hot young rookie out of Maryland pumped in 23 points in the game leading all scorers. She was, as they call it, in the zone while the Chicago Sky were in the O-zone going cold on offense and letting the Sun control the game in the 2nd half. Well, at least our team is whole again but in reality our starters haven't all been together yet this year as this was Sylvia Fowles' first game back after hip surgery, and Delle Donne has been out for five games dealing with the recurrence of the Lyme disease that has plagued her since her college days. It will take some time for this team to gel as a unit now that everyone's back and, hopefully, after tonight's loss in Connecticut, the gelling will come sooner rather than later as our team is definitely heading in the wrong direction losing 6 of their last 7 games. The Sky go to 6-8 for the season while the Sun have reversed a very poor start to the year and are now 8-6 winning their last 6 games in a row (now that's gelling!).

The Sky may have fallen tonight but once this team's starters get their legs back and start gelling as a cohesive unit the winning streaks will be back like early in the season when the team went 5-1. Up next, the New York Liberty at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. Take a bite out of the Big Apple Chicago Sky, so we can start screaming "the Sky is NOT falling, the Sky is NOT falling."  To steal the tag line from Nike - JUST DO IT! GO SKY...
