This was one crazy Bears game today - very good things happened including Devin Hester breaking free and scoring a touchdown in a thrilling long run back and in the process tying Deion Sanders all-time return touchdown record with 19. We were watching the game at our golf shop and everyone inside at the time was whooping it up. We also all mutually groaned when Jay Cutler was injured in the 2nd quarter and it wasn't immediately known what happened to him other than it looked like he hurt his hip or groin or something in-between that lower zone. The way Cutler walked off the field so gingerly, it was obvious something in his privates was killing him even though it was hard to see how it happened when they kept re-showing the play where the injury happened. One of my workmates said "I think he got kneed in the nads" which made us all groan, even me the only one in the room without nads. Then we got into a hilarious discussion as to whether women have groins and being the only female, I assured them we do because I pulled my groin once and I can assure you it was not fun and it took forever to heal.
Kudos to back-up quarterback Josh McCown who came in and did a stellar job under trying circumstances. Not only does he have a healthy groin, he showed poise in the pocket, ran the ball with abandon (which many said was a bad thing since he was our last true choice for quarterback and if something happened to him, his groin, or any other part of his body, we would have been screwed), and pretty much kept us in the game. It didn't hurt that Matt Forte scored 3 touchdowns but it did hurt that our ever-reliable Robbie Gould actually missed a 34 yard field goal in this game. So with the final score of Washington 45, Bears 41, the missed field goal (had it been made) would have still led to the Bears coming up short by one point but one can wonder how it might have changed the game had he made it...
Our defensive squad is so decimated it's hard to imagine the Bears holding off too many NFL teams down the road - although it helps that we have a bye week coming up and can only hope that maybe Tillman and Briggs aren't too badly injured and might be able to return by the time we face the Packers on Monday night football on November 4. More bad news, the game is in Green Bay. Oh my aching groin!
